MG MGF Technical - New tyres

Guys,

I need to change my tyres - the front ones are completely worn. Anyone got some recommendations, Bridgestone RE050 / S03 / RE720, Pirelli P6000 / P7000 ?
Looking for something not too noisy, with a good grip and not too much change in behaviour during rain.

hi

I would always recomend either the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD2 (not GSD3) Or the Bridgestone SO2/3. Also the Toyo Proxys seem to be a very popular one as well.

Let us know how you get on.

Jens, as has been mentioned here previously, when upgrading to better tyres your should ideally replace all 4 tyres. It is unwise on a rearwheel drive car to have more grippy tyres on the front.

Jens,

All the tyres you quoted are good tyres.

Personally I've got S03s and love them... but I have 15" rims. These are good in the rain also, but the 16" version may not be as good. I don't know.

People also rave about the F1s - but not the GSD3s as Steve points out.

I know Steve (Farnborough) raves about the RE720s as being a very well balanced tyre choice.

Hope ths helps a little.

Cheers,
Paul.

I have the F1 GS-D2's on the car & can highly recommend them. They do take 200 to 300 miles to "bed-in" but after that they are superb.

Jens, if you register (its free) you can then check out the archives. Plenty there about tyres.

I fitted Toyo Proxies all round and they are the best tyres I have tried. After trying the Goodyears F1 etc,Yokohamas the Toyos have definetly been the best buy and the grip they give is superb. In the wet they give me full confidence that the car will stay on the road and also the car will go in the direction that I want it to go and not the direction that other tyres seem to try and dictate. I do on average 600 miles a week and the Toyos have never once been a problem.

Hi all,

The problem is when you've got goodyears and 15'' rims.

GS-D3 comes in 195/50. which is good for the front.
GS-D2 comes in 205/50. Which is good for the rear.

When you go GS-D2 or D3 all around what measures do you choose?

195/55 for the front in GS-D2 form??

Cheers, Valter.

My personal fav is the Bridgestone S-02, but the Goodyear F1 (GS-D2) is now a warm favourite of mine. Takes a good number of miles to scrub in to give its best performance though...

I have F1's GSD3's fitted to the front of my mpi 1.8 and F1 GSD2's on the rear handlin great. I just thought I would add this as there seemed to be a problem with GSD3's
Martin

I fitted Toyo Proxes & they are very good. Especially when you consider price versus quality

I've got F1 GSD3's on the rear and GSD2's on the front(however I will need to replace the fronts soon), handles like a dream in dry and wet
