MG MGF Technical - Nitous fitted over the weekend :)
Even with 159BHP I don't like it when I can't keep with those Boxster’s, Scooby’s, etc out of the roundabouts... so a considerable upgrade was required... :) …Therefore the nitrous Kit and will be fitted over the weekend with a progressive controller and professionally tested with the basic 25BHP jets, when complete I can then upgrade the power to an instant 50BHP and 50lb/ft or more for £12!!!... These guys have done many K-Series engines and guarantee their work! This means that with the 50HP jets my car will have an instant 210BHP and 186lbft... I have been told to expect a 1/4 mile in around 13 sec - I was also told that this isn't too bad considering your sports bike is in the 11s :) Hopefully it'll all be set up just in time for the Mulsanne Straight on Friday night at LeMans... I'll keep you posted on how the engine holds out and make sure my RAC cover is up to date! Cheers RichieR (Nervous though excited!)

What you haven't told us is...... How much? Paul...
PAUL HINDLE
I take it that you're already saving for a HG repair, or am I just being over sensitive having once suffered the not inconsiderable cost? Good luck though
Nic Kent
Well, tuning is one thing. It cost a lot of money. Okay, the MGF looks very good. But when Mr. Richard wants to keep up with the Boxters and further more, why does he not spend money on let say a F1-Mclaren. Then Mr. Richard has used his money well, and no one will mess.
Mr. Lapitac
Asking for trouble I think. Mr Lapitac has a very good point.
Dot
Cheers guys, Nitrous is actually very cost efficient... The whole kit can be fitted for about £1K and the power output is immense… plain HP & lb/ft figures really don’t do it justice as this is an instant power increase everywhere above the torque and BHP lines on the dyno. Instant wheel spin in any gear! I won’t just keep with Boxster’s now it’ll leave them easy…! :) Who needs to spend £1M on a McLaren F1 I had my car converted to the latest HG and dowels in Dec 2001 so hopefully can avoid HGF Cheers RichieR
RichieR
Why not fit that sorta stuff to an old Crapri or summat, it's spoiling an MGF IMHO.
Dot
Do you lose your boot space then? Interesting. Not trying to be negative.. but I always feel that the engines in Fs are something not to be ... eh.. to feel secure of... but nitro..??? You be the pioneer and let us know! (+ the icon chip! :-))
Hanah Kim
You lose a bit of space as the 5kg NO2 bottle is about 2ft long though it must sit at an angle so you save a bit of space there though I guess I'll need to find a case that fits my bootrack! I remember all the same things were said about the SuperChip - Oh it's unreliable won't last, etc however I've been to Cannes twice with that chip and it's done very well...:) I know though that Nitro is another story that's why it'll be fully check by the pros before it lights up the engine! :) and perhaps the exhaust pipes too, which should be a nice sight from the Quad Datona system! :) Cheers RichieR
RichieR
I thought you were kidding when you told me the other day...... TTB getting fitted today on the RR on Wednesday (V soft darkside mod in comparison). See you in a pile of bits on the Mulsanne straight on Friday :o) Good luck Tim

Is Dot jealous? ;-P
Growler
Sorry everyone. i got a slight pinch of jealousy yesterday. I think it is well worth upgrading it. I hope him all the best and appologise yet again for my childish behaviour. Best of luck! Mr. Lapitac. |
Mr. Lapitac
Richie - TOP MAN! :-) Please let us know how you get on, but you are a Pioneer mate with all the potential glories and pitfalls. SF <--- impressed. P.S. When it is all up and running, could you possibly pop up to Haverhill? Andy Marshall 'traded up' from a VVC to a Boxster S last year and it would superb if you could burn him up in an F!!!!!!! (just kidding!) ;-)
Scarlet Fever
I'm jealous of anyone with an F1, true :o)
Dot
It will be a damn good test for everything 1) components in the engine (as far as my knowledge goes, RichR didn't do any internals) 2) Good test for the new gasket + dowels 3) Good test for 1.8k VVC itself 4) ICON chip + NOS = ????? 5) If succeed with realibilty = WOW!!!!! Best of luck from me.. if you get it... and if you make it, it's just gonna be plain awesome! Fastest F! Fast and Furious...
Hanah Kim
Hows all this going to effect your insurance Richie? and are nitrous bottles actually legal for road use?....Best of luck anyway, let us know how you get on. Davey.
Davey
Hi Richie, looking forward to your comments when the system is up and running. Usually ignition has to be retarded when using nitro so maybee better to make the first tests with the ICON bridged ? Also NO nitro below 3500 revs or surely the gasket will go. Do You have button controll only or low revs dissable as well? And the combined nitro and gas injector has to have fuel at every moment there is nitro injected. The meltdown of a piston is sub-second if only nitro and no extra fuel is injected ! Remember the F´s pistons are not forged... Best of luck and keep us informed, Carl. |
Carl
Cheers guys, Must say that I caught a bit of the fast and furious bug! The Nitro use a two injector’s one for fuel and the other for the Nitro. Their is an electronic controller system that starts jetting in a % of nitro/fuel at set intervals therefore increasing pressure with revs until max output :) The gas bottle is fully legal and a 5KG bottle will give you 6-Mins of glory with the 25HP/Lbft jets. You can get an 11KG bottle... All going well I will go to 50HP jets almost immediately and with tinkering to the electronic controller 75's shouldn't be a problem...:) can you imagine 75HP/Lbft jets on the VVC... wooooowwwwww – The system will allow 100HP or much more however internals would definitely need some upgrading!! There is a switch to turn the Nitro electronics on, this deactivates the Chip therefore retarding the ignition to standard... Hopefully all going well I will be at Santa Pod this summer :)) Cheers RichieR
RichieR
I wish i was this brave. :D An excelent mod and a first i believe. keep us posted. you'll be after traction&launch controll next ;) That'll give the boxters something to worry about.
Kingsley
Fantastic! When you planning on getting this done Richie? This weekend, or next? Some photos of the installation etc would also be very interesting... Leigh
Leigh
I was planning to have it done over the weekend however the weather has been a nightmare plus I watched that Tyson fight last night! Therefore, it looks like it'll need to wait until I come back from LeMans. I'll keep you all up to date as to how everything is going and take some pics to be posted on here! Apart from getting the mixture right the biggest hurdle is deactivating the chip when the NO2 is activated... The electronics system can be set so that it can help eliminate wheel spin by reducing the amounts of nitro at lower revs though it won't take account of a wet patch or cornering forces, etc...! All going well the 50HP/lbft jets will say bye bye to M3's...:) Cheers RichieR
RichieR
Rich, Who's kit/controller have you used? Steve.
Steve-dodgybus-Jenks
Now if you´d install this in addition to Peter´s ( see engine swop thread) 2.0 turbo engined *F*, you might not just be leaving Boxters,.... I think NOS has a very high refill charge for a bottle. How long before the NOS tank is empty? What about performance increase using water vapour injection (myst systems) best of luck with the mod, I´m impressed!! Cheers, DAvid
David
After a bit of investigation I decided upon www.noswizard.com as I have a mate in Glasgow that had used them before with excellent results. The 5KG NO2 bottle will last for approx 6mins with 25HP jest on full output though you won't find a road long enough! Boxster’s will be easy meat on the 25HP/Lbft jets as I can nearly beat them now. 50HP/lbft jets = 5sec to 60 and a 13sec 1/4m with no let up till you hit 150MPH on the limiter in 5th :) Only £12 to go to 75HP or 100HP jets!! It is true that the only downside is running out of gas however it also means that you can switch the system on and off when you want the power! Al la Knight Rider turbo boost..! NO2 is much more powerful than any other form of tuning... though works very well with them eliminasting any lag Cheers RichieR
RichieR
Did you take the engine warranty offer? Does it cover HGF? And a final question. How much is the refill for the NOS bottle? Ralph
Ralph
I have an option to take the warranty and will probably take it I'm not sure whether it covers HGF. Refills depend on where you have it done and range between £2-4/KG. I have a 5Kg bottle however could go for an 11kg or 2 11kg's as another guy has with his VX220. Cheers RichieR
