MG MGF Technical - No superlocking
There must be a thousand variations on locking/alarm problems and now I have one of them. The car locks from the key fob but at the second click there is no reassuring clunk from the car as the door deadlocks engage. Both door switches work the interior lights OK as do the boot and bonnet switches. The alarm sets and works, tested by opening the bonnet after locking the car. I tried both keyfobs to eliminate battery problems. I would suspect a door locking mechanism but surely this would only affect one side and at least try to work. Any ideas? |

Have you checked the dead locks? Leave windows open, super-lock the car, then try pulling up the door pins. If the dead locks have operated the pins will not unlock the door(s). Ted |

try a few more clicks. My car seems to need a triple-click after the initial locking to get the super lock to work. |

i sometimes get the same problem - even with a new fob battery - first click works then the second sort of thinks about it. i find that unclicking then double clicking a second or third time seems to work ok. if your hands haven’t frozen by then! t ps. if the boot is open it doesn’t seem to superlock. |

Brian, Do the lights flash four times after superlocking? If not then there is a problem with something indicating to the ECU that a door or boot/bonnet is open. Here's a check you can try on the locks etc:- Alarm system test The alarm system can be tested by following the procedure described below: 1. Ensure doors, bonnet and the boot lid are closed. 2. Sit in the driver’s seat and close the door. NOTE: The next three actions must be carried out within 2 seconds. 3. Depress the driver’s doorsill button. 4. Switch the ignition on, off and on again. 5. Raise the driver’s doorsill button. If the test mode has been entered correctly, the horns will give a short beep and the engine immobilisation buzzer will sound. Opening either door, the bonnet or the boot lid, or operating the driver’s doorsill button, will cause the alarm LED to illuminate for approximately one second. If the LED does not illuminate, there is a system fault. The volumetric sensor can also be tested while in test mode. To test the volumetric sensor, press the unlock button on the remote handset several times. The alarm LED will illuminate for approximately 1 second each time movement is detected in the vehicle. The test mode is cancelled by switching the ignition OFF. Hope this helps Bruce |

Ted, I cannot try your tip as I cannot superlock the car John and Tony, multiple clicks do not work Bruce, I will try this at lunchtime |

Brian - I've also had this problem with my ZR and am interested in any solutions. One thing I did notice is that the lock response is better once I am away from any radio/telephone communication masts - are you near anything like this? |

>>>Ted, I cannot try your tip as I cannot superlock the car ===but you can TRY to superlock the car, Ted's test will tell you if it has actually worked without you hearing it.... |

Another success for this BBS. One click to lock the car. A second click almost instantly and the car superlocks on click three or four following this. Any delay between clicks one and two and the procedure does not work. This is an entirely different behaviour to previously when two quick clicks superlocked the car every time. Maybe it does not like the cold. |
