MG MGF Technical - Noise from front wheel

My 2004 MG TF makes what best can be decribed as a whiring/Rumbling noise from what sounds to be the drivers front wheel, it tends to start or be more noticable at 30 mph upto 60 mph. it doesn't change under braking or steering. any Idea's

Sounds like the wheel bearing.

I thought that but there dosn't seem to be any play on the wheel, with other cars I've owned in the past the sound has changed under braking or steering, I was wondering if it a oaculier trate of TF's ?

MGF bearings are a bit odd in this respect. They can be noisy before there is any discernable play, and worse, the noise tends not to be any worse on cornering, which is a particular characteristic of bearing failure on most other cars. Why this is I don't know...

In my experience, rear wheel bearings are the ones that most frequently fail - likely because most of the MGFs weight is over the rear wheels (55%). The fronts are relatively lightly loaded.

Other things to consider (and I am sure you've already ruled out) are:
1. worn brake pads - pads that have worn to the base plate can make a noise like this - and sometimes the pads can wear unevenly - which can make a quick visual inspection deceptive.
2. A stone in the caliper
3. Warped brake discs (or run out out of specification)

Will be interesting to hear what the solution is here :o)
