MG MGF Technical - Noisey cam belt....
VVC TF recent head gasket renewal, along with all belts, tensioner and water pump. The belt is genuine O/E and there is no (known) fault anywhere else. The problem... When cold, all is well, no unusual noises, as the engine warms up, the cam belt get noisey, a (wining noise). I've never come across this problem... any thoughts...? Mark. |

Are you sure it is not the alternator belt? |

HI Mark, I had a weird one with my vvc, It had new head gasket, water pump and cambelt. Again all quiet at first, but after some use it got louder with a strange noise, I thought the cambelt was rubbing the case at first, but after some investigation thought it was the alternator bearings, so changed the alternator with one from my spares "shed"...noise still there. Traced it to the aternator tensioner wheel (mine is a japanese export model so has aircon and a lower belt tensioner) It may be worth a look? John |

Same goes here John...mine did that after a new HG and it has air con as well. The mechanic sprayed the alternator area with something and it went away. Sorry but I cannot recall what the spray was. It stopped the noise. |

Hi Mark Sure it's the Cam belt ? If the VVC components are worn you will get a whine / wistle sound. This will only be apparent at 4200 RPM and above. |

The fix was to replace the cam belt again.... No noise now and perfect. Mark. |
