MG MGF Technical - Not Starting!!!
Another problem with the wife's 96 VVCi!!! When we come to start it up nothing happens, all the warning lights come on the dash as normal but the engine will not turn over. The battery connections are tight, all electrics work but it wont start up. I'm guessing it's a faulty realy or loose wire as we got it going (once) by smacking the fuse box but now it wont do anything!!! Any ides which relay I should be looking at before I get my multimeter out!! Thanks in advance. |

Seem to remember that 'smacking' the starter motor can sometimes help as the dog can stick |

Could be a sticking solenoid on the starter itself, which as Ted says will probably leap into life with a 'sharp tap', or sometimes just rocking the car is enough to loosen it. I presume when the starter does actually turn the engine it turns quickly, i.e. no problem with the battery output? |

Is it still 'Imobilised'?? Have you 'Zapped' it a few times ?? Geoff F. |

I´ve had my dash lights up and still have a dead battery! |

David, Not sure if its just a flat battery or a nackered starter from your description/ I think I#d try jump staring from your car via leads and if the starter turns and it starts its the battery, other wise sounds like its the starter Lights come on on the dash even with a low battery so its never a sign that battery is goog, there's a hell of a lot of a current draw to run the starter, ensure your car engine is running before turning over your wifes mg |

Well gave the starter motor a slight tap and she fired up straight away. Thanks for the help all. |
