MG MGF Technical - OBD II - revisited
There is an interesting thread on On Baord Diagnostics in the 'archive'. You may recall that I found the OBD socket on my2000 and Tf's and that there was plenty of cables, plugs and software around. Has anyone taken it any further and successfully extracted diagnostic information yet? jt |

Some of the ZR boys have been talking about connecting up the on board PCs they've installed to the OBD to get more ECU derived information... |

Thanks Rob, I'll post over there too. I'm planning on trying out an interface from Gendan in Swansea http://www.gendandirect.co.uk/viewproduct.php?product=STNISO They have a set up that works with MG. Has anyone access Rover specific ODB codes? I've got ~ 900 generic ones that apply all manufacturers. jt |

I seem to recall coming across a site that had some of the extra Rover specific codes John - but that was ages ago I am afraid, and I didn't store the URL :o( Suffice to say that they are available as a free download somewhere... [not much help, sorry] |

John, I would be interested on trying the Gendan scanner too. If only it would work on the MGF... It would be nice if you could let all us know about your test results. Mike |

Hi Mike, we were away last weekend so not as much progress as expected. The kit arrived next day from Gendan who are very helpful, the only rover/mg specific issue is lack of pin 5 ground which they had already resolved - http://www.gendan.co.uk/diagnostic/connectors.shtml btw Gendan are just a helpful welsh distributor of scantool product http://www.scantool.net/products/elmscan_iso.htm The ElmScan interface hardware worked fine with the basic http://www.scantool.net/software/index.htm#download software. It told me I had no error codes stored and gave temp and other readings just fine. Sadly I haven't got the Digimoto software going fully yet. That's the stuff to produce real time graphs etc. see http://www.digimoto.com/faq.htm The problem is to do with my 1996 laptop and I have acquired a slightly newer one and am in the process of putting win98 on it. I had an OBD2 reader connected to my F, it was a hardware hand-reader normaly used on Toyota's since they use the same OBD2 ISO specs. Beware that refresh rate can be low (once a second). |

John, Did you manage to get the Digimoto software fully operational? Is it worth? Would you recommend the Gendan interfase? I am waiting for your final veredict before buying. Many thanks indeed Mike |
