MG MGF Technical - Oilt emp

Can anyone help with this query?

What temp should the engine oil be? Mine is about 90 during normal running and it was about 130 when doing 90ish over the weekend

And... the engine has a distinct whine when running - it rises and falls with engine revs. The enine is a VVC and I wondered if it was something to do with the valve gear/extra cam belt? Its not unpleasant but I just wondered if it was normal.

Thanks

Use length of pipe or steathoscope (SP) to find the location of the whine, you're lucky as it appears to be all the time!

Oil Temp, yes sounds about right, are you using synthetic oil or mineral ?

Whine could be from the belt tensioner.

Is the sound coming from the right hand side of the car, near the wheel. If so, my best bet would be the tensioner.

Thats a disgraceful speed to be doing!

You should have been doing at least 110 ;-)

Mike,

I imagine the oil is cheap old rubbish, I only bought the car 4 weeks ago and the dealer serviced it !!!

Johan,

If anything I would say the whine is from the left of the engine (passenger side) but it definately sounds like a belt type whine as it rises and falls exactly with engine revs - NOT gearbox though.

Oops I managed 130 on the clock on my F 1.8MPi but you never heard it here........:¬)
