MG MGF Technical - Optimax

Hi All,

First time TF owner and would be grateful if someone can confirm if the 135 has a knock sensor as I used to use Optimax in my old 220 and didn't want to swap over if it didn't from regular unleaded.

thanks

I'm afraid that there is very little point in optimax other than for it's cleaning properties, as you have guessed there is no knock sensor.

Welcome aboard John! As Tim says, the TF does not posses a knock sensor - so no real benefits in using this fuel above a decent 95RON brand petrol.

I am currently doing some mpg testing. I do the same 50 mile trip every day to work, some motorway, some A roads. So far with RON 95 fuel I get 28.6 mpg whereas I get 30.4 mpg with the higher octane rating.

This works out at 12.6p/mile for the Ron 95 and 13.0 p/mile for the Optimax

It is however early days and these test are not conclusive. I tend to do a few weeks with one then a few weeks with the other.

More in a few weeks.

The Optimax perhaps may deliver a small performance improvement simply as it burns faster and hotter

who can say?

Neil

Thanks for that everyone, I suspected as much but deep down, I hoped that it may only be the VVC's which didn't. Still, back to the drawing board.
