MG MGF Technical - Orange ABS Light

A warning light has come on on my '97 mgf. I have a diagnostic code for this, but the people who read the machine then said they did not know what it meant !

The code is '0E-01'.

Any clues anyone ?

Which warning light and/or symbol is illuminated please? This might help with diagnosis...

Mike - title states Orange ABS Light!

Aha - wooops!

Don't know about the specific code, but the warning lamp would almost certainly suggest a fault with one of the ABS sensors. I'm not certain that a damaged reluctor ring would cause the lamp to light?

If you brake sufficiently hard to lock the wheels (eg on a gravel or gritty surface)does the ABS cut in or not?

I seem to think that the front sensors are the same, but that the rears are 'handed'. Can someone confirm?
Mike Hall

I presume that this is a Bosch hardware generated code, and unfortunately, I've no more idea than anyone else. However, it is possible that there is an ABS forum or some such resource which may shed light on this. There are manufacturers of aftermarket equipment that can read these codes - and the WELLS engine management site even has manufacturer specific code listings. Unfortunately, being North American, it doesn't list MG Rover, but taking a stab that the ABS may be similar to that used in a '96 Honda Civic (does it? No idea...), then code 11 suggests a problem with the right front sensor/reluctor ring. Or harness.

Perhaps contacting Bosch directly may reveal more information?

the guys who took the code mentioned Honda electrics - is that the route I need to explore ?

Its all a bit puzzling, though, because the code comes in 2 parts.

0E-01 - Is that Hexadecimal ? What does it mean ? Front/Back Left/Right ?

LOL - I shoulda bought tha Mazda.

I am not certain I have any ABS at all, but I will take it out for a spin and see if I can test it.

Easy to tell whether ABS is installed or not, luckily. Open the front bonnet, and to the left of the spare wheel as you look in there is a mounting panel. This is an empty space on non-ABS cars, but occupied by a large alloy Bosch ABS pump if it is - it's pictured here: http://mgf.ultimatemg.com/group1/facts_and_figures/mpi_v_vvc_images/abs.gif

If you don't have ABS, and you're getting an ABS fault code, then something is wrong somewhere!!!
