MG MGF Technical - Part Numbers Required...

Hi guys, having trouble with my parts CD (apparently it has expired) and am after the part numbers of:

The MY2K T-Bar

and

The T-Bar speaker box.

Thanx in advance.

T-bar = EQY100660 followed by colour code
speaker covers = XQB100940/ 100950
David

I think Scarlet doesn't want to know part number about speaker grills but speaker boxes (behind t-bar).
cnerone

Sort of, i'm after both. :-)

Thanks David:

Any idea why the covers are have two different part numbers (are they different colours or were they revised?) just curious.

Anyone got the part number for the speaker box?

Andy,

Mike gave me my speaker boxes back after he fitted Boxers. The numbers on it are:

XQM 101400
G22460
1A311

Hope this helps.

The speaker grills are handed because of the shape of the t-bar, but surely you want to go and get the bits from [the Midland] MGF [centre ""] ?

Cheers Dave. :-)

Will,

I will eventually, but at the moment i'm only doing research into the coversion at the moment and i'm just trying to get a complete picture. Will be visiting Halfords soon too to get prices and part numbers for the 2 to 4 speaker wiring harness. :-)

Andy -do you need this? If you have an amp (I'm assuming that you'll be refitting it - but putting the fitters mistakes right! ;o)), then the speakers will be driven from this rather than directly from the head unit...

Andy,
I would not recommend fitting the speaker grills in the MK1 T-bar, and the MKII T-bar should already have them fitted... or am I misunderstanding?
Will Munns

Getting a little out of hand this, some clarification.

I am NOT doing a speaker conversion - yet.

I am doing some research into the conversion for a friend and this includes part numbers, prices etc.

The amp in Scarlet runs a 6" subwoofer inside the dash (on top of the glovebox) and therefore is not suitable for driving the rear speakers as well (it is crossed over to produce a bass signal).

--------------

On a similar subject, i know the MY2K has tweeters in the doors, but i am thinking of recessing the pair i already have into the dash (this is IMO the best place for tweeters, you get a reflected sound from the windscreen).

In the MX5 there is a tweeter conversion which mounts them in the headrests and this got me thinking. The MX5 conversion i feel would be a bit tricky to pull off in an F/TF, you would need to strip the fabric off of the foam innards (which tends to disintegrate when you do so) and then form a recess for the tweeter, you would then need to perforate the leather (in my case), which could look untidy and then re-cover the headrests (lots of stitching). Lastly you would need to devise some way to conceal the cable down one of the headrest rods (a chromed tube might do the trick, but this may rattle) and take the cable down the back of the seat (inside) to the floor pan where it could then be taken into transmission tunnel (you see i've been thinking about this for a while now!) ;-)

Anyway, the above is a monumental pain in the bum, when it might be a lot easier to recess them in the T Bar either side of the central bump. If it could be done neatly (which i have ideas about) do you think this would be a good idea?

Gotcha Andy :o) I knew that your amp ran the sub, I just wasn't sure how many channels it had (I've got a nice 5-channel amp to fit at some time! ;o))

Not sure about the tweeter in the headrest idea. The advantages are, I guess, that you'll be able to hear the high frequency notes that would usually get 'washed away' when you had the roof down.
Disadvantage is clearly that you'd loose all 'stereo imaging' altogether...

I suspect that the MX-5 solution was necessary as there is no handy trim panel behind the seats into which to mount speakers (unlike the F, with its T-bar).

The T-bar mounting of the speakers is probably a superior solution. For starters, you can fit far better quality speakers in there than you could inside the head rest!

The fact that your T-bar is already trimmed in leather is also, paradoxically perhaps, and advantage, in that it will be easier for you to modify your T-bar, and get the speaker trims to mount flush with the trim (you could get the leather to slightly stretch over a suitable MDF mounting plate, for example).

My guess is that you are planning on using a pair of Mike's fetching s/s speaker trims? ;o) It'd certainly be a nice cohesive solution mate! :o)

To your original question... er... don't know the part number, sorry :o(

You read my mind :-)

MS FX ali speaker covers, semi-recessed into the T-Bar witht he leather covering hiding the edges. Plus matching MS FX ali tweeter covers each side of the central T-Bar bulge, again finished with the leather hiding the recessing work in the T-Bar. Been putting this off for ages as i only have one shot at the leather, if i bugger it up then i'm stuck with a potentially huge bill. I'll never get the T-Bar rec-vered in new leather that matches the old stuff, so i'd have to re-trim the car again (you can imagine that i'm not too keen on this idea!)

But, with the car in bits and the possibility of a second-hand T-bar to practice on, it seems liek a good opportunity to finally sort it out.

Cheers guys.
