MG MGF Technical - PAS fluid reservoir. Where is it?
My brother has bought a 98 MGF and fant find the PAS reservoir and his power steering isnt working at all. I sai Id ask on here where the reservoir is. Can anyone help? Also, is there a common problem with the power steering system in these cars that I should look for? |

There ain't one!! It is electrically assisted steering. If the PAS isn't working it could be a fuse or the speedo - if the speedo isn't working the car shuts the PAS down as a default because it varies how much assistance it gives according to your speed = slow + max PAS, fast = minimum. The main fuse for the PAS is under the bonnet a very large fuse box on it's own 75 amps (I think). Finally he does have PAS ?? As it was an option on some cars! |

You'll never find it - it is one of the first electronic power steering systems fitted to a production car! As a member you can access the archive here and do some further diagnostics! 'Common' problems are speedo cable breakage or blown fuse but EPAS faults are really very rare - honest! |

This site covers the principals of the EPAS. http://www.mgfcar.de/epas/index.htm and this one is about the electricals http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/index.htm The big fuse that Ted mentioned is 40 Amp. HTH Dieter |

HIYA CAN ANY BODY TELL ME HOW I CAN PUMP UP THE SUSPENSION ON MY MGF MY WIFE HAS HAD THE CAR, FOR A YEAR NOW AND IT IS JUST DUE IT MOT, BUT THE SUSPENSION IS VERY LOW SHE HAS BEEN TOLD SHE CAN HAVE IT PUMPED UP BUT DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE, SHE LOVES HER CAR AND YOU KNOW WOMEN THEY NOTICE NOTHING PLEASE HELP PAUL |

Paul, You need a special pump to raise the suspension on your wife's MGF. Garages that used to deal with some of BL's older models like the mini should be able to do it for you as well as ex MGR dealerships. Prices range from about £15 to £50 depending on where you go. Valves are under the plastic shroud in the front boot area. Correct height for a standard MGF is 368mm +/- 10mm measured from the centre of the front wheel to the underside of the front wheelarch at 17°C - this is approx 400psi. Allow 0.6mm of a difference for every degree over or below 17°C. |

Many smaller garages have a Hydrolastic pump in a corner somewhere because they used to service Metros. I went to a little one-man workshop here. To find the valves, one for each side, remove the big black plastic shroud that you can see under the front bonnet, and there they are. I held the tape while he pumped the pump. It took 15 minutes and cost me £10. |
