MG MGF Technical - Persistant Engine Noise (non VVC) ... Solved
Following my post of the same title I have now found what was causing my engine to be so noisy.. in my engine paranoia I overlooked the possibility of the problem being to do with the exhaust. It turns out that the problem was the engine-manifold gasket. MG Rover fixed this for the princely sum of 180 quid. Unfortunately, on my first major drive out of the garage I got a HGF... but thats another thread. |

The reason for the HGF was probably the cooling system not having been properly bled after the manifold gasket replacement. |

£180.00 for a exhaust manifold gasket!!!!!!Surley you mean £80.00 . mike. |

>The reason for the HGF was probably the cooling system not having been properly bled >after the manifold gasket replacement. Does the F have water cooling in the exaust manifold? I thought only in the inlet Will |

I asssumed that the "engine manifold" was the inlet one i.e. the one that usually leaks. If it was the one on the exhaust side it is of course not watercooled. But £180 to have i fixed - that would have been expensive even in Norway! |

Jon I think we all (except Will) thought the same as you - bearing in mind the cost. Ted |

Sorry guys, my mistake, Will and mike were correct to presume that I meant the exhaust manifold. The work was done by MGR (wheeler?) dealers Bramalls of Cheltenham. They said that the work also involved reboring the Head as the thread was damaged. Do you guys think i've been ripped off? |
