MG MGF Technical - Philips Radio Casette (R741) and Auochanger (DC082

I have purchased a Philips Radio Casette (R741) and Auochanger (DC082) with the lead that joins the two together and although the radio cassette is working fine and the lead fits at both ends, there is no power to the disc changer.

I have read that the power and the information is sent down the single cable and the changer does not need a separate power supply, so I am wondering what I am doing wrong?

And I have two changers and two radio cassette players - to be fitted in two cars - and they both behave the same. I cannot believe that they are both broken!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Mathew,
are you positive that you have wired up the radio cassette unit correctly?
Are you wiring it in a MGF or some other car?

From your post dated May 2003 on the Maestro & Montego Owners Club forum, you state that you used a terminal block to connect the radio.
(I came across your post when doing a search in Google)

Also make sure that your long connecting lead is the correct one. Apparently there are two types?

This is info from the Internet:
"If the dc082 gets a flicker of power on ignition turn on, then it may need resetting. Look at your CD changer, On the side, or the back there will be a little hole, just a few mm in size, it may be covered by a see thru plastic sticker, just gently poke something down the hole, and it should re-set the changer".

Also this post may have some clues.

Hope that is of some help.

Sorry the link to achive does not work.

Try doing a search in Technical Archive for "Philips DC082 autochanger (6 disc) stopped working"

In the search window, click on "this phrase"

Hello,

Thanks for the link - just looked at that but I am not getting a message on the radio head unit.

The radio cassette is fitted to an MG Maestro but not since 2003. I fitted it in 2010 and it is working well but when connecte to the disc changer there is no power - no illumination on the eject button.

One thing that has occurred to me is that the radio cassette only works when the ignition is switched on but the eject button on the CD changer should work all the time. So, is there a second power supply needed, via the head unit, that allows this to work?

I have looked for MGF wiring diagrams online but can only find ones with a radio cassette or single CD/tuner rather than with a CD changer.

Presumably there is a power input into the head unit that comes from a fuse that is always live like the interior light or similar. Any ideas on this and which pins this should be fed into would be great.

By the way I have an ISO adaptor on my wiring so the head unit is using the same plugs as would be on the MGF.

Matthew,

You have identified the source of the problem.

The head unit requires a 12volt feed from the ignition and a permanent 12 volts from the battery to retain the head unit's memory and to power ancillary equipment, like the CD changer.

The permanent feed is normally a yellow wire.
