MG MGF Technical - Plipper enquiry

You know the Rover/MG/Land Rover generic plipper?

How do I reset it?

And does the same procedure apply to the plipper of an R8 Rover 200 which, cunningly, has a slightly different plipper.

I ask this as an F owner, and on behalf of my 214Si owning uncle who has been told by a local garage (non-MGR, just a back street outfit) that it'll cost him £99 which sounds like cobblers to me.
Trevor Patchett

If it is a blipper that was working before, it should be enough to press the lock button a few times (5), and it shouuld be working again. It could be the unlock button as well, not sure which 1.

Don't know about a 214 though.

I should explain my situation.

I've lost the spare plipper in a house move, and I hope to obtain a new spare in the next week.

I'm guessing that the new plipper will need to be calibrated to my car. Any idea of the cost?

As for the Rover, it's the spare key that my uncle is trying to reset. So if the procedure is the same as the F's he should be all right pointing the plipper at the car at pressing the lock button a couple of times?
Trevor Patchett

It requires the MGR TestBook electronic device to calibrate and YES £99.00 is about right for a new remote.

Try to get 1 from Ebay, possibly cheaper. There is none on now, but there will be some again surely.

Sorry if those obtuse, but the spare of my uncle's 200 should already be calibrated to his car?

So all he has to do is press the lock button a few times?

Whereas I am looking at a bill for £99

>So all he has to do is press the lock button a few times?

Indeed, and if this fails at his car, then check battery and contacts at first.

However, if that blipper gets adapted with TestBook to your MGF, it woun't work with any other car, of course.

Are you sure? I thought the car was programmed but the blipper just merrily churns out the same numbers, which would alow you to share remotes, and so have a smaller keyring, but not alow you to unlock only one car on your driveway ;-)
