MG MGF Technical - Premature gear box oil change?
Given that the gearbox seem to be consequently under-filled from the factory. I think I'll check it and, while at, it change the oil. The recomended interval is 160000 kilometers, but what about time? I would expect age to play a part to... cheers Oskar Anyone know a good Castrol SMX-S dealer in Sweden? |

People seem to have used Castrol SMX-S with good result. It is fully synthetic which the "original" isn't. The synthetic should have better aging characteristics. You need at least 2,2L to refill the box from empty. (castrol recomends SMX-S for MGF.) Tell me if you find any good source for this in Sweden |

MG-Rover list Texaco MTF94, Unipart MTF94 or Caltex MTF94 for refill or topping up Geoff F. |

plenty in the archive - just search on 'gearbox oil'. Rover developed MTF94 specifically for the F application of the PG1 box - but Montys and Turbos use this box with 10/40 engine oil. I use 5/50 Mobil 1 synthetic in mine and it's done many thousand miles of hard driving with no ill effects. |
