MG MGF Technical - PU bushes (again)

I was told that fitting PU bushes in a F is no good.

The advantages of better tracking/handling would by far outweigh the disadvantages of driving comfort (steering, response and the likes).

Is this true or complete rubbish? I would appreciate your experience please
Freek

I like to know where I am going, so I would think that better response/steering is better handling/tracking.

It is one of the planned upgrades for this year to me.

Not sure who told you that Freek? I haven't gone down this route myself, but I know a number of others who have, and none report any problems with ride comfort or noise after fitting these bushes. I suspect that this may be, at least in part, thanks to the properties of hydragas suspension! Certainly PU bushes on other types of car can increase harshness...

Hi Freek
Have a complete set of PU-bushes installed on my '98 F.
I noticed a little more harshnes (less comfort) but great improvements in handling! With the old bushes I had to adjust my steering in corners permanently when the road surface was a bit uneven. After installation of the PU bushes this spongy feeling was gone. No problem regarding noise at all.
Maybe with PU bushes installed you should change the setting of the wheel-alignment. There is a good URL regarding this settings (it's in german)

LOL Nickolaj and I had very similar ideas! See http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/tracking.htm - although there is more on the page to wade through than on Nikolaj's nicely concise page ;o)

Thanks guys. The comments above were made by some former mechanics working for a local MG dealer. But I have decided to give PU bushes a try.
I let you know how it turns out
Freek

Rob, do you have any info on fitting Compliance Washers? I notice that they are really cheap and from what I can gather they make quite a difference. Is this so?
