MG MGF Technical - PU Bushes: DIY?

Hi folks,

Has anyone got experience on fitting PU bushes on the rear outer tca/ tie bar?

I am very interested in some sort of step-by-step guide. (guess I am not the mechanic I hoped to be :-( )

Bob Millar

I have actually written some instructions for this which I have been meaning to give to Rob to post on his site. If I get the chance later in the week I'll try and get them over to him.

Anyway, As a DIY job it is pretty straight forward albeit a bit tight. It took me an hour and a half and really is very simple.

How much are these bushes on their own? and where from?

The likes of Brown and Gammons do not have an online price for just the Tie-bar bush rather than the complete set.

However Mike Satur does. http://www.mikesatur.co.uk/fx05.html about 3/4 of the way down the page. (NB prices are each!!)

I have to confess that I can't believe the price of F poly bushes. I'm in the process of fitting a complete set to a Morris Minor van (different beast, obviously, but still probably 20 bushes in total) and that complete kit cost about £30. They're made of the same stuff and, given the F's Metro heritige, some of the bushes are probably identical!

Steve, you can also try http://www.powerflex.co.uk
But I must agree with Tim. This stuff (for a F) is more expensive than for most other cars.

You may want to start with the "number 4" - that's the rear outer tca/ tie bar. - and take it from here and gradually expand. That is most people seem to do. Hopefully, Tim sends me some DIY-info over this weekend and I'll pass it on if you like

The rear are easy (nearly).
Complete story is in the archives.

However, see the job regarding the cheaper solution with washers. The PU installation is the same process.
