MG MGF Technical - Pulling to left at very low speed

Hi all. Long time no posting, I hope all are well.

Not posting about my F (which is incidentally, off the road with HG probs AGAIN at the mo.) but about a colleague who has just bought a W reg F and is suffering with pulling.

I drove the car, and at very low (literally 2mph e.g.) and it drives to the kerb in literally 5 yards!

The dealer is fobbing her off (non-Rover) saying things like "...well if it only does it when you take your hands off the wheel, don't take your hands off the wheel". Can you believe that?

What should be checked? I think they've tried tracking it - although probably not properly.

all said - she loves the car, btw.

Thanks in advance.

binding brakes? (take calipers off and check for odd pad wear)
worn bushes? (does the car pull in one direction when on accelerator and another when off?)
road camber?
EPAS fault? (pull big fuse uner bonnet and see if it goes away)
Will Munns

Not road camber! even I thought of that!

they did do something to a squeaky rear bush or something - might be worth following up.

Will get her to try the other things.

Cheers

Could be calipers a bit seized. Pad wear will give away that one

also make sure that the tracking/geometry is ok and that nothing underneath has been bent in a prang!

My W reg F has the same problem, pulling to the left at low speeds. I'm currently talking to Rover about it. What it looks like on mine is the sensor on the EPAS is not correctly balanced. Jack up the car so both front wheels are off the ground and feel the steering, leaving it straingt ahead. Now start the engine and the wheels turn left by themselves. There seems to be quite a few mentions of this problem and it always appears to be to the left (or people saying that there appears to be less power assistance to the right). Also at between 30-40K miles, so perhaps it's wear related. I would be interested to hear if yours appears to be the same fault as mine.

Well, you may be rightm that sounds exactly the symptoms.

Luckilly for my friend, the garage has now relented and are calling in MG for assistance as they admit they don't know what to do about it.

I'll keep you posted.

I have a Y reg on about 34000 miles and i too have noticed funny things with the steering, bought the car second hand.

at first i thought it must just be a car 'feature' but then it now appears there is something in it.
