MG MGF Technical - Putting back the T-Bar
Hi All Happy New Year.. Just looking for a little help. Took the T-Bar off last weekend as I was using the handy space behind it to do what the locals call 'fleisch schmuggelei', ie. running across the border to raid the nearby megamarket for meat. (You would too if a very small chicken cost you £8 at home.) Followed all the instructions from Tony, and the bar popped off nicely with a series of pops. Trundled back across the border whistling the tune from 'The Great Escape', and crammed the freezer full. Unfortunately, the T-Bar won't now pop back on to the red plastic pegs, and I have a suspicion that the red pegs should not have been left behind in the holes. Doh! Question is, does this really matter? It seems at first glance to be a devil of a job to get the red pegs out, long nose pliers and a lot of patience required, and the bar sits fairly nicely, and does not rattle. Next question is can you buy new plastic pegs (both male and female parts) for the door panels, as every time I take the door panels off, one of the pegs disintegrates, obviously the plastic is not really good for 8 years. Order ESK100460K seat belt kit,its contains 6 of the trim plugs,4 screws and 2 seat belt escutcheons about .73 pence. I find this the best way to get those trim clips. |

Jim Joe could be right. Over here in UK the pegs are shown as fir tree tasteners. During the changeover from Unipart to Cat some packs seem to have got mislabeled. Twice I ordered fir trees and both times MGR produced the fasteners for the big black under bonnet cover. |

Bought another pack on Saturday cost .53 plus vat = .60p also has 2 metal brackets included. |

Shouldn't be too hard to remove the retaining pegs from the mounting points - and all that should be needed is to reposition them back into the T-bar - unless the slots themselves have been damaged? http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/interior/T-bar/tbar_installation.htm |

word of warning for TFers, when you take the door cards off use a big flat blade or one of the proper tools to release the clips. Don't just pull as the bits on the cards have changed and are now just metal brackets pressed into the card like cheap photoframe hooks. Had some quick setting araldite to hand for the couple I pulled of the card and didn't make the same mistake on the other door!! |

Tony... funny that.. I did exactly the same on one of mine the other day! the big one in the bottom corner nearest the door hinge came right off the door card... oops... |

Yep that was one plus another in the middle - not a very clever way of fixing the mountings into the cards but now I know... |

Have anyone pics of the way the TF doors are clipped????? Wanting to change the main loudspeakers... TX |

No difference (nearly) to the MGF. I.e. @Paul's http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dotcomoff/home/motoring/mgf_faq/diy/bodywork/windows/window_stops_diy.html |

I changed my speakers for infinity 6502s, the door panels come of the same as an F but prise the clips out along the rear, bottom and front edges carefully. The speakers I bought had different size connector so had to make up some adapters, the old speakers were rivited into the plastic holders so just drilled out and put the new ones in with 3 self tapping screws. Hardest problem was refitting the door trims as the weather seal on the top was really tight and a pig to get back in so just try and be patient, maybe do one door at a time so you keep a reference as to where things go! I used Rob bells door trim guide at ultimatemg.co.uk or similar. There was a recent thread about 6502s so try the archives as I think the link was on there. Good luck as it was definatley worth the effort for the sound quality - the SWMBO was not inpressed with seeing the insides of her doors and panels all over the garage floor though!! |

Comparison of the Mk1 MGF door card (below) and MY2000 door card above: they're identical, I believe, to the TF? http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/interior/interior_concept/interior_images/parts_fitting/doorcards_new_old_backing.JPG |

apologies Rob for any slander and refs to your site! They are the same crappy clips on both those panels but the door panel instructions I was using seemed to show different clips. Don't know which guide it was as I can't log on at work and search the archives, it was on a thread about infinity speakers. (goes back in his box to keep quiet for a while!) |

No worries Tony! Been meaning to post the pix of when I installed Infiniti Kappa speakers into the doors of my F for some while - ought to get on and do it I guess! ROFL ;oD |

Tony, I've searched the archives, but couldn't find anything on 6502 (nor 6502s) infinity series... Couldn't you remember the keyword you use for the search??? TX |

thanks Will, that's the one! Spinder00, if you have a look here http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/ and go to DIY on the right, look for in car entertainment there are some instructions for the door trims - don't pull but prise the clips along the bottom! |

I'd better change the wording then Tony! :o) Cheers |
