MG MGF Technical - Putting TF 160 Alloys on F

I want to find out if putting the TF 16x7.0J Wheels onto my MY2000 MGF will.

A) Be a direct replacement with no modifications.
B) Affect the dynamics of the car in any way.
C) How do they compare to the 16" square spoke MY2000 alloys I currently have on. I would like to hear opinions on asthetic matters too!
d)Do they look silly without the AP calpers being fitted?

Thanks again BBS
Paddy

A. Direct replacement.

B. No effect on dynamics

C. Look better (Well i have a TF160)

D. Of course not.

Just make sure that you use a tyre size thats recommended for the F though.
J Gower

I agree with the above.

The wheels bolt straight on. They weigh about the same as the square-spoke 16" alloys they're replacing, so no appreciable change of dynamics.

The aesthetic thing is too personal really, so don't shoot anyone for their opinion - but for me, I love the square spoke look - and moreover, I am not all that keen on the fussy 11-spoke TF design. The 11-spoke Trophy design is, IMO, much better. As I say - a very personal thing.

Those wheels over the weedy standard brakes? ;o) No, it won't look silly - but I bet you cave into the force of the Darkside and fit bigger brakes later anyway! ROFL

Rob you might not like the 11 spoke alloys but they are one of the 3 standard/optional MG Rover wheels that allow you to fit the sport pack / TF 160 / Trophy 304mm discs and 4 pot calipers to the front. The other 2 being the Cup wheels and the MGF Trophy wheels.
David Karle

Just re - read all your post and realise you mentioned the BIG brakes.
David Karle

David, only two standard wheels will fit over the AP racing brakes - those being the two 11-spoke alloy designs you mention (TF and Trophy).

Unfortunately, Cup wheels DO NOT fit over AP calipers unless extremely wide spacers are used. Slightly less heroic spacers will allow the multispoke alloys to fit over the APs, but the Square Spoke 16" wheels are, I suspect, a complete non-starter.

As I mentioned earlier, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but since Paddy was canvassing for opinions, I gave my honest one! :o)

Thanks everyone.

Its a hard one really as my square spokes need to be reconditioned to prevent me from looking like a scruffy g*t on the well preened streets of HK. But that will cost 300 quid. Whereas the new TF 160 alloys start to look like a resonable purchase by comparison, especially as might be able to get up to 100 quid for the squares on ebay (guessing here).
Im very tempted indeed!
Paddy

One last question, as I plan to transfer the tyres if I can.

Does the TF160 16", and MY2000 Sqaure spoke alloys 16" take the exact same tyre size?

I know the answer is almost certainly yes, but I want to be sure.

Thanks again
Paddy

Regarding tyres, the answer is yes - same tyres used what ever the rim employed.

I am guessing you've got 215s all round at the moment Paddy? You might be better off going for 195s at the front - but it all boils down to what's available locally.

When does the car come ashore?
Rob Bell

Thanks Rob!

She sails on the 21 of Aug, and takes 20 days. Im trying to get as much as possible done before arriving in HK, as I recon it may be a bit more complex in a country that has not had a Rover dealer for 6 years
Paddy

That's true. But getting parts ought to be straightforward - even second hand stuff; Macau is stuffed full of mid-90s Rovers :o)
