MG MGF Technical - Quality of parts for MGF/TF's

Have you ever felt that the spare part or new item that you have bought for your MGF/TF was not as good as you were expecting?
That it could have been better made? That it's quality did not match the price you paid?

A group of us on the BBS feel that it would be worth conducting a survey just to see how bad things actually are. Maybe they are not bad at all, but the only way to check is to find out how everybody else feels. If some items or suppliers regularly crop up, then maybe a word in the right ear might improve things. We do not intend to "name & shame", certainly not at this stage, but want to be fair.

Of course, to know how bad things really are, we need to hear the good side too, so if you have been totally satisfied with what you have bought, then we'd like to hear from you as well.

Any e-mails that are received in response to this survey will be treated confidentially and will not be passed on to the supplier concerned. If such action is considered later, then we will contact you beforehand.


Please do not post your complaints, moans or salutations as additions to this message - simply mail them to MGFquality@aol.com

1. The e-mail you send must not be anonymous - otherwise it will just get binned.
2. Rate your satisfaction on a 0 to 100 basis, 100 being as good as it gets.
3. The complaint must be specific, not just a whinge.
4. The complaint should be backed up by information as to what is/was actually wrong.
5. It should include the name of the supplier and date (approx) of purchase.
6. Was a complaint made to the supplier at the time?
7. What was the response received?
8. Was it resolved?
9. Do you have any substantiating evidence / photos / e-mails, etc.
10. This survey does not cover Servicing.

Err... ever thought of using 'surveymonkey'? And secondly does a 20+ fault MGF rejected under warranty count and the TF it was replaced with also having 20+ faults count too? If so I have two A4 files full of poor build quality info and MGR longbridge 'customer service' nonsense....

To be honest, I have not heard of "surveymonkey" before, but will have a look at it.

In answer to several comments made on the "MGF General" threads, I can assure everyone that this is coming specifically from one particular regular member of the BBS, with the agreement of a number of other regular members, none of whom are suppliers, and I have no link to any suppliers.

The only reason I have not put my name to this is simply because if it were to cause a backlash from suppliers who might in the end be affected by the outcome of the survey, I would still like to be able to buy bits and not be blacklisted.

Well, I suppose the crux of this is trust. As a MGF owner, a frequent user of this board, and a purchaser of spares and accessories, my intention is to try and ensure that we all get

what we pay for, but without me taking the brunt of it.

There are 2 sides to this of course. For instance, while R.J. Hemphill's response on the MGF General thread is fair comment, if you read his response on the MGF Technical

thread,..........well, for all I know, he could be a supplier of parts who is laughing all the way to the bank and does not want any sort of public comment. I am not saying he is, but you

must see what I mean - it's down to trust.

How about if this is tackled another way?

I make my name public but still ask you to email to MGFquality@aol.com, simply so I can manage the e-mails easily.
I add a disclaimer that these are the collated views of BBS members and do not necessarly represent mine.
I set up a database, accessible by all, in a similar way to the HGF database at shame.4mgf.com, and use it to collate the information passed by you.
You provide the information as outlined before via e-mail with the emphasis on "satisfaction" for aspects such as supply, delivery, fitting, usage, etc. based upon a percentage value,

which can then be averaged over time.

Of course, this is still to some degree open to abuse, which in the end comes back again to trust.

But at least suppliers will be able to see the praise as well as the criticism.

sorry but i cant help feeling like that. I had an mgf vvc which always had mg service history and was always at mg costing me money and it was a load of rubbish. It seemed like the whole car was one big fault. Dont get me wrong because i had the most amount of fun in it but its just a shame the car wasnt built by people than know how to buid cars.
