MG MGF Technical - racing seats in F/TF?
Hi, has anyone ever tried to fit some proper racing seats to the F/TF? I think the standard seats give too little side support and there is also the old problem of sitting too high in the car. The problem is I can't find any seats with mounting systems for the F (at least in Germany) and I don't want to fiddle around too much myself because surely the TUEV wouldn't like that at all... Is there anything available in the UK that you could recommend? Thanks, Nikolaj |

Hi Nikolaj, :))) Ich dachte, Du fährst jetzt "richtige" Autos !! :))) LOL >I can't find any seats with mounting systems for the F You asked the wrong people ;) See the Sandtler catalogue (paperwork, not online INO). They are rails for the MGF. I recall they are 51 EURO Cheers, Besten Gruss Dieter |

I'm afraid, they are online. 34611 L/R 51EUR each http://www.sandtler.de/katalogangebote/konsolen/bilder_konsolen_typ_34/34611.htm Looks like the they fit. Not adustable, though. Come on mate, will you tell us you change back to an MGF ?? Dieter |

Dave I think has the technical drawings for the runners used by the MGF Supersport concept - but no one has manufactured specific runners for aftermarket seats - sorry Nikolaj :o( What project are you working on at the moment? :o) |

Hi, thanks Dieter, somehow I knew that you would come up with a parts number within max 3 hours :-) Change back to an MGF? Nope. But I couldn't resist that TF160 demonstrator from Pickartz und Schmitz when they went bust ... :-) GREAT car, much better than the F and especially so on the race track. That's why I now need one of those hip-hugging Sparco seats. And new tyres. And new brake pads... Rob, I'm still working on that Formula car and our site is now available in English as well (not a really good translation, though) www.ecurie-aix.rwth-aachen.de The first test runs will be Decembre/January and the next competition in May, so still a lot of work. But it's huge fun :-) Thanks again for the help, Nikolaj |

Would you know of any Uk aftermarket supplier who offers proper sports seats for the TF? I have browsed B&G and MS sites but cannot see anything.... |
Stephane |
Nikolaj, not sure if this is of any use to you? http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/catalogue/product_detail.asp?PCODE=MOMA3700112000&GRP=MC018&PGRP=MP015&CLS=MSPORT&from=search Hi Stephane, I looked into bucket seats for the MGF a while back - here's what Mak @ Cobra came back to me with: >>The Imola is the only real option for the MGF in terms of getting the right width ... You could get the Sportline in as this was original fitment to the MGF Trophy race cars. Also the Evolution and Suzuka have been used by Roversport, but at a pinch! Try Securon, they make a retractable harness and also Jamex (it's the same one made by Securon with different colours and badging!)<< Hope this helps. Seat costs somewhere in the region of 180 pounds each, plus you need to add about 20-30 pounds for the seat runners... |
Rob Bell |
Rob, Thanks a lot - I went onto their site a sec ago and could see the Imola, Evo & Suzuka seats but could not find the Sportline. Any idea where I could see that product? |
Stephane |
Not sure Stephane - the above information is a little old now, so maybe it is now a discontinued line? In any case, the Sportline is quite a 'wild' seat: you certainly would not be able to use the storage spaces between the seats: in fact, the MGF Cup cars has all this trim removed for weight saving and to make space for those sportline seats! The Imola, I reckon, are your best bet. |
Rob Bell |
Hop ! Little pictures of the original MGF-Cup seats... here it's. The previous owner of my car also used a SPARCO seat instead of the original one, as you can see on the pictures here : http://mgfcup.forumtuning.com/index.php?lg=&id=mycar_photos (The driver seat is 'SPARCO' and the other one is 'MGF-CUP'. I now have the 2 Cup seats) |

Just to clarify on the seats; The sportsline is no longer made, but the imola seats do fit in. You may have to be a bit creative though! Once done you are not going to need to do it again. Probrably will not have the nerves after doing the first 2! Hope this helps. Happy cornering! Duncan. |

Duncan, are you going to Castle Combe next weekend? |
Rob Bell |
Arnaud, Where did you get them from? I presume you fitted them yourselves? What sort of budget are we talking about here? My dealer has a similar car and I like the seat cover with the embroided MG logo. Can we still get hold of this do you reckon? |
Stéphane |
I bought the car with the seats. I don't know if that's possible to get new ones again. I've changed it myself but the fixing part was already installed on the floor... so it was easy for me ;-) |

Maybe those links would help you. It seems Bride seats are able to be fitted in! I hopethis link will be helpfull. Not for me 'cause I'm not sure I could read oriental languajes!!!!! http://homepage1.nifty.com/daitakei/mgf/f_modi/speedster2.htm http://homepage1.nifty.com/daitakei/mgf/f_modi/seat1.htm http://homepage1.nifty.com/daitakei/mgf/f_modi/f_bride.htm http://homepage1.nifty.com/daitakei/mgf/f_modi/bseatcange.htm |

I forgot this one: http://homepage1.nifty.com/daitakei/mgf/f_modi/bride_ergo.htm |
Spinder00 |
BUT DO NOT, WHAT EVER YOU DO, MOUNT YOUR SEAT BELTS LIKE THIS GUY HAS; http://homepage1.nifty.com/daitakei/mgf/f_modi/sabert.htm Very very scary. Not safe. :o( |
Rob Bell |
Really scary!!!!! I think i've seen the right way to mount them, but I can't remember where. Do you remember, Rob? |
Spinder00 |
you have it on my pictures, here : http://mgfcup.forumtuning.com/index.php?lg=eng&id=mycar_photos But I'm not sure it'll fir your "standard" MGF ;-) |
Arnaud |
Spinder, the only way that I've seen a four point harness mounted is via an FIA-approved roll cage - I can't quite see how you've got yours mounted Arnaud, but I assume that yours is the same? I think that you should be able to mount the upper seat belt mounts to the parcel shelf - so long as a suitable reinforcement plate is welded in to spread the load (this is effectively how the inertia-reels are mounted as standard on the F - peer into the engine bay, and you'll see what I mean) |
