Without being too provocative, it all depends..... If it is an old F with ethylene glycol antifreeze all it's life so far then stick with that and drop as low as 30% mix but replace every 2 years. If (whichever model F/TF) it had OAT in before then definitely stay with OAT. You can also go for longlife - 5 years or 150k miles before replacement. Have a look at this: http://www.aa1car.com/library/2005/us90554.htm Like all good things in life there isn't a single infallible answer. |

You could ask the garage doing the work but if both rad and pipes are changing I would go for several thorough flushes and OAT as it is probably the best. Make bleeding it again some time afterwards a part of the deal - three bleed points and a jiggle valve. When I did my pipes a few months ago it suddenly needed a half pint top up about a month later - it takes a while for all the bubbles to work their way out. |

There should be a lable on the expansion tank, yellow for OAT or black for the 2year stuff. OAT is about £4.75/litre against stock 2 year AF at £2.20/litre.About 4.5 litres of AF is used and the remainder is water.HTH. |

MY2001 would have OAT on new Build. I maintain a policy to change any rubber pipes that are disturbed over 5 years old. Geoff F. |
