MG MGF Technical - Radio Fuse 12

Has any one had a problem with the radio fuse 12 keep blowing? I have recently purchased a 98 MGF for my wife. The stereo that was in it was on its last legs and fuse 12 was constantly blowing but not straight away. I have (the weekend) fitted a brand new cd/radio and the fuse is still blowing. It seems to be intermittent as all things off the fuse will work for a few times ie switching on/off etc. Any assistance gretly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There's not much space behind the radio and it's easy for the wiring to get trapped between the back of the unit and a vertical metal bracket which has quite sharp edges. On my F one of the wires for the heater fan switch had rubbed through the insulation on this bracket and burned out - I wouldn't be surprised if your problem is similar. Take out the radio and inspect the wiring loom very carefully. If you take out the middle air vents you can get a bit more room and also see where the wiring is sitting before you remove the radio.

Here's a picture of the wire through the radio apperture...

...and once the middle air vents are removed you can see from above.

Many thanks for the quick response, i will look at the weekend when i have time. the middle air vents, are they easy to remove? Do they just pull ot or is there a knack?
Lee

Just grab the vertical bit between the two vents and pull, it comes out slightly upwards. Be careful not to break the little plastic direction flaps!

Thanks tim. Managed to look at the weekend. Someone in the past had talen a live feed off the radio supply and whatever it was feeding they have removed and had left the feed unterminated and still live. I have now removed the said feed and fingers crossed the fuse has lasted over 36 hours (record so far!!).

Lee,

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like you've cracked it! Glad the fuse was doing it's job...
