MG MGF Technical - RATTLING AIRBAG COVER
Yup it rattles - I need a solution - it is the cover/insert - it does not have a airbag behind it - passenger side 96 vvc - how do i get to it to glue it up or something? Thanx Nick N115 AOX

| Nick, Open the glove compartment and you shold find two screws, one each side- remove. under the glove compartment you should find two more, this time in runners so loosten and give the glove compartment a good rattle untill it comes free. Four wires to switch and light, note which goes where and disconnect. now lying on rhe carpet look dircetly upwards you shold see the back of the panel, push hard and it should pop out, now use bathroom sealent around the hole (use clear) and replace,. | If it is just a blank it has nothing written on it If it has an airbag behind it it has SRP on it. Also if passenger side airbag is fitted it will have little labels on the passenger door jam saying you must not use baby seats etc. But follow Wills instructions to keep you head in one peice. Ted |

I was looking a a ZR at the weekend and I noticed that where our blanking plate for the passenger's airbag is it had a very nice storage unit with a rubber non-slip mat. Does anyone know if it would be possible to fit one of these units in the "F". The blanking plate looks dreadful. Right next to the ZR was a TF with the illfitting plate. Does MGR designers not talk to each other? David

David, It probebly would, Question is whould any dealer let you pull it out to try in your F as I don't suppose that they stock them (not lightly to break). but the airbag system is almost definatly exactly the same, and there is a reasonable space behind. If I were you I would take your cover off, replace the glovebox and drive round to the dealer then look at the space side by side with a demonstrator. Will

I think Mike Satur or someone looked at doing this but found that due to the torsion bar there was not room to do anything useful - other than fit an air bag. Ted

This has been dicussed a lot of times before. Unfortunately as Ted says the space behind the blanking plate is obstructed by the crossmember so not much other than the airbag will fit. Spyros
