MG MGF Technical - Rear screen

Can anyone recommend a screen replacer near to Essex?
Or are they easy to change yourself?
I see B&G do a DIY one. Has anyone tried it?

I got home tonight to find a two inch gash in it. I must have been reversing too fast and hit a fly or the fly was travelling too fast!

I know the proceedure, but have never done it Richard. Here is how to do it...

Unzip old screen.
Unclip rear of hood and fold forwards.
Drill out (carefully) the rivets around the rear of the hood frame - do not enlarge the holes.
Slide out old screen.

Now it gets a little hazy, but as i understand it...

Zip in new screen and partially velcro it in to get the alignment right.
Sandwich tail of new screen in frame.
Pop rivet frame/screen sandwich together.
Re-clip rear of hood into place.

Job done.

I'm sure someone else'll point out anything i may have missed. Overall, apart from needing a steady hand with the drill it's a pretty easy job and shouldn't take more than half an hour or so to do.

You make it sound too easy! Shall I bring a drill & rivet gun on Thursday? :-)
Thanks for the advice, I'll proberbly give B&G a ring in the morning. Might try Victoria as well.

always worth checking out http://www.softtopwindows.co.uk/ as Croydon is not that far; they do DIY or fitted whie you wait.

Cheers for the link John, I'll add them to my calls in the morning.

Has anyone tried http://www.softtopwindows.co.uk ?
Richard

Hi Richard,
I used A&R Pounds which are less than 30 secs from B&G. They are a specialist vehicle trimmers. They replaced my rear screen, with a much tougher and more flexible one.....£80 for cash all in - It was superb. HTH

Richard,

all I did was to go to the nearest sail making company and asked them. I got it all out, but they put in a much stronger bit of plastic, the stuff they use in sails funny enough!.

Apart from me taking it out, the plastic and the stiching cost me £30.00 and it's stronger!,

Thanks for the advice, Kieron & Mike.

After having a bit of a surf, I'm just toying with the idea of a new hood with glass screen from Mike S, and then sell my hard top. Having not had the F for a winter yet, is this a good or bad idea? I've been told from some you can't beat a hard top for the winter, whilst I have also been told that it's a lot colder with it fitted. Any opinions?

The soft top is a little dark, it make the cabin quite gloomy, but on the + side, it will be down most of the time - yeah?

>whilst I have also been told that it's a lot colder with it fitted. Any opinions?<

Not sure who came up with that idea but I can assure you the opposite is true plus with the light colour of the hardtop interior trim it makes the car much brighter so the *F* becomes a very warm, friendly and bright coupe - two cars for the price of a hardtop aint bad.

Not sure why but I just put our hardtop back on (not even 1st October) and the car is now lighter, dryer, warmer, qieter, safer, stiffer but ... I cannot feel the sun on my shoulders nor the wind in my hair!

JohnP

True John but have you put the hard top on to your other vehicle!

Thanks guys,

I guess that settles it. Keep the hard top and replace the screen. Cheers for the advice/opinions.
