MG MGF Technical - rear screen broken boo hoo
Terrfic ! Only just got the ZT back on the road and look what happens!!! as it is a lovely sunny day today we decide to take the roof doan. Undoing the roof the rear plastic screen on my F goes CRACK! and an eight inch crack appears from nowhere! Brilliant! :-( So where should I go for a new rear plasticky screen. I dont want to spend hundreds on a new roof. Thanks guys |

Have a look in the archives - there have been a number of recommendations for trimmers in the London area. The screens are easy to fit - see http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/exterior/hood/rear_screen/index.htm |

Bad luck Neil :-( Was it really cold then when you put the roof down? I can't think it would crack that bad otherwise. Mind you there was hard frost on my rear screen this morning. I was momentarily tempted to get the roof down as was glorious sunshine - but thought better of it in case the screen cracked. Glad I didn't now! Everybody raves about Sonia, the lady who does the rear screens at a good price and posts them to you. Not sure of her contact details, sure someone will be along soon with them though! Fiona :-() |

OK let's have Sonia's contact details if you could |

Thanks Rob instructions are clear. would like to go glass if that can be provided as a replacement insert |
Neil not so noisy today :-( |
Oh OK Neil, I will search the archives for you! from previous thread: "You could try Sonia Morris of 69, Rydal Gardens, Hounslow, Middlesex, tel: 0208 893 9747 or 07904 893460. She can send you the part for £75. plus £7 p.&p with full instructions on how to fit it and she can also supply zip sliders and runners. If you are not into DIY, then take you car to her, it takes about 2 hours and she will relieve you of £115." (Don't know if these prices are still current) Fiona :-> |

Neil, sadly, glass isn't available as a replacement insert - only as part of a complete new hood assembly :o( I would be very tempted to fit one of these - except that I have the X-Power hoops fitted to my car - and this robs the space needed for the glass screen to drop into when the hood is stowed away. |

to soften the screen use a good pintglass of hot water from the tap, pour over the screen an bob is you fathers brother in law |

Commiserations Neil. My '98 vintage plastic rear screen did the same one early morning on the Dambusters weekend a couple of years ago after years of careful lowering - usually with screen unzipped. I must say that the glass replacement I now have from BAS is a joy. This morning it had ice on it (so I'm not surprised your plastic one cracked), but it just dropped beautifully into place with no worries for a blue sky run into work. Something I wouldn't have dared with the plastic one. Yes, a replacement plastic part would have been a hell of a lot cheaper, but the hood itself was beginning to show its age even after loving attention from new. What's your hood fabric look like? Might be worth biting the bullet. |

roof is ok ish beginning to get a bit of a patina and leaks a little tiny bit around the driver's side mirror in downpours but otherwise pretty good . The car spends a lot of time in my garage and so isnt subject to the full onslaught of the weather, nevertheless a big shame it went and so dramatically too! |
