MG MGF Technical - Rear shock mount adrift
Morning all - delighted to have the F back following HGF repair, hopefully in time to enjoy before the thunderstorms. Not so delighted to see this reported on the paperwork. Presume serious? Paul |

Anything like this- http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/common_problems/CoH/suspension_failure.htm |

Oh is that all? I was worried there for a moment...!;) |

The lower shock mount can come adrift on early cars with standard dampers. This being the case, the solution is cheap and easy compared to the collapse upper suspension mount shown in the link above |

Yep and later MGF have additional washers installed to prevent the metal_eye_ from jumping off from the shock mount. :) |

Rob/Dieter - thanks for the reassurance! Still best to get seen to asap though or leave until my next service, due August? |

?? why taking a risk ??? A big outer diameter washer for M10 screw will do it after pushing back the fixture eye onto the shock mount. Any workshop can do that after taking off the infected wheel. This picture shows the subject http://www.mgfcar.de/defects/hanah1.jpg Blue coloured special shock mount from Mike Satur (in this special case) Your standard is black and simple rubber. MGR dealer will have no other option in August than replace all four dampers for a lot of $$$$ cause they don't know of the washer options from later make years and the shock mount is not available as spare. ;) I'd finally recommend to get new aftermarket shocks though. |

thanks Dieter! |
