MG MGF Technical - Rear View Mirror
Hi folks, The pad that sticks the rear view mirror to the windscreen dropped off in hot weather earlier in the year (96 MPI). Im finally getting round to sorting it and wonder if there is a recommended adhesive or pad suitable for sticking it back on. Your advice would be appreciated. Cheers, Russ. |

Don't know about a recommended one, but I'm sure I've seen rear view mirror adhesive pads in car accessory shops. |

It is. On the other hand you could try it at a front window repair/replacement workshop. Costs there shouldn't kill you. |

You might try the 'Thin' Number plate adhesive pads available from Halfrauds. Geoff F. |

I had the same thing and I tried the pads from my local accesory shop but the mirror just kept falling off. In the end I went to the local Autoglass centre and they fixed the problem cost about 10.00 from memory but I have not had any problems since |

Russ, for my previous F, I used a special 2 part epoxy type mix. It is a product specially made for stick on car mirrors and holds fast. cheers, Branko |

Thanks folks, given that the mirror holds lights and is relatively heavy. I think I'll try my local windscreen centre, or failing that, the epoxy mix. Cheers, Russ. |

Don't use superglue ! I know to my cost on a mini windscreen Mirror fell off, went to Halfords got superglue for a few quid. Stuck mirror on and in 3 seconds fixed ! - Lovely Some bit later busted windscreen Superglue tube is about 1 and half inches and has 50 lines of information written on the tube, and if you use an electron microscope you can see it says not for windscreens |

After wasting my time trying to get the crappy adhesive pads from Halfords to work I used Loctite 319 Rear View Mirror Bonder and it's still firmly in place a year later. I bought it on ebay for a couple of quid but I'm sure you can get it at other places like a motor factors, maybe even Halfords do it now? |

Even better than that! I took the car into the windscreen centre this morning, they were really good, did the job while I waited and only charged me a couple of quid for their 'tea fund'. Apparently superglue can break the windscreen and it is UV from the sun that contributed to the glue breaking down. Given the same problem, I'd recommend using a specialist. Cheers, Russ. |
