MG MGF Technical - Remote antenna for MGF?
Hi All, I was looking at some of those automatic car aerials yesterday which always look cool when someone starts their car up. I was wondering if anyone has done such a mod to their MGF and if there are any instruction about on how to do it? Cheers Sonny |

Thought about one some years ago, but IMO impossible at the current MGF aerial location, cause .. to big _under floor_ http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4612202420 |

I agree with Dieter, Lack of access to the rear bulkhead and space available for drive motor make this modification impossible, in my opinion. I'd love to be proved wrong! Sam |

My old Jaguar XJ6 had the motor mounted remotely and it drove the aerial up/down via a nylon Bowden style cable. I am certain if one wanted to use such a system then there would be room providing the aerial was of many short sections rather than most modern ones being just 3 or 4 sections. I no longer have that Jag but I seem to remember that each section was no longer than about 6 inches and too up very little room - it had to be that way because it was fitted in the very rear of the wing by the light fittings. |

Ted, Those Jaguar aerials looked VERY cool, as they were almost a flush fit when down. It would be great to source some bits and make up a mod for the F. The challenge is on the table! Sam |

Is this the kind of kit to source? Pictures not very big but seem to be a Ted describes. This is a US site but there may be a UK supplier - or else raid the breakers? http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/mmp/jaguar~xjs~power_antenna~parts.html Will |

There's one for sale on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4611134544&fromMakeTrack=true Would this mechanism fit inside the rear wing bulkhead? Getting wiring from the head unit to the antenna motor would be nightmare but doable. mmmmmmmmmmmmm... Sam |

Sam - Will thats the 'jobbies' - on the Jag the motor section was mounted in the boot with the Bowden drive going through a hole into the wing area - a very neat solution BUT and it is a BIG BUT they do jam if not looked after properly - if you look back in your memory you may recall seeing them stuck half up or down! |
