MG MGF Technical - Remote locking antenna
I gave up trying to release the remote locking antenna from the wiring loom to improve the range of my blipper. No matter how hard I pulled, it would not come out, even after cutting away some of the plastic sheathing and removing tie wraps. However, I have just had a thought..... If I could establish the length of the exisitng wire, I could cut it behind the console and connect an appropriate length of wire. Anyone got any idea? Sam |

don't do that. If you want to free it then pull the wire up and cut with a sharp knife the tape which is now streached, DO NOT cut the wire DO NOT cut the tape directly onto the loom. The wire is well stuck, but it is free at the end deepest into the footwell. |

On the early cars the wire was not even in the loom - it was rolled up but just alongside. Guess that is progress for you! Ted |

The yellow wire will not come free. It is well and truly twisted inside the wiring loom. Surely if I cut the wire behind the console and added a length of wire the correct length, then this would work???? Sam |

does the wire stand out from the others? I'm not sure that all ariel wires were yellow - some might have been orange - do not cut the wire unless you are _sure_ it is the ariel, most yellow things under the dash are for the SRS airbags. |

Hi Sam, if you can trace the wire all the way to the box it should be possible to cut it there and add sufficent length of new wire and put this one more freely. As the antenna is a L/4 at 433 MHz the total wire length should be around 170 mm. But this is the first time I have heard of that the wire is totally stuck within the other cables. Really sure that it is the correct one ? There are stranded cables with yellow that can be hard to differ from solid yellow... BR, Carl. |

>There are stranded cables with yellow that can be hard to differ from solid yellow... I think you mean striped wires, the wireing harness uses diffrent colours for diffrent things: http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/color.htm most wires are two colours, a main colour and a tracer colour (for instance Black with Pink tracer for the door locks). some wires are one colour (for instance Black for ground). There is a yellow with red tracer which runs from the alarm ECU to the MEMS, which is used to tell the MEMS to disable the engine immobilizer - DO NOT CUT THIS WIRE |
