MG MGF Technical - Remove MGF radio
I would like to replace my current radio (newer style MGF radio circa 2000)- links I have checked suggest the 'coat hanger wire' method but the newer unit seems to have a more sophisticated locking system! Can anyone help please - if there is a special tool are they available anywhere? many thanks |

I'm not familiar with the mose recent models, but Halfords will have the necessary tool. |

Ian, When I removed the MGR radio from my 2001 F it has a couple of flaps at either side of the fascia with Allen bolts behind it. Just unclip the flaps and unscrew the bolts which will release the radio locking mechanism. It's a long time since I did it but if I remember it's an imperial key that you need. I started off with a metric one and turned and turned and nothing happened. I thought that something was broken, but as soon as I changed the key it caught and came out no bother. Another tip is to take the centre air vent out and this will let you see into the back of the radio. Also, the radio that I have now plays CD/MP3s on discs but it also has a USB connection and takes memory sticks (pen drives) which means that the music never jumps and I get loads of music on at the one time. |

Exactly as DC says - the later radios were rather different to the earlier Phillips supplies units... |

Many thanks David - did as you suggested and the rest was easy! Now have a similar radio to yours with USB and access for MP3 player - its great! Ian |
