MG MGF Technical - Replacement carpet

Not sure if this really is technical, or general, but here goes:

Our 2001 MGF has developed a big rip in the drivers side carpet. It looks suspiciously like its been done by heels but the missus is playing dumb. Anyway it needs replacing.

Who can tell me the layout of these carpets. On a brief initial look it seems to be fitted in sections. Can you get just the drivers side or will the whole carpet need replacing?

Leading from that, can anyone suggest a good reliable source to get one?

Thanks in advance.

After changing the carpet in my old F, and re-fitting the carpet in my TF I would advise the following.....

Go to your local market stall and buy the cheapest most basic piece of offcut they have in black carpet!.

Then using the most blunt pair of scissors you can find just cut this carpet to something like the shape of the F floorplan...or infact the shape of anycar will do!.

Its then just a case of throwing it into the foot wells and job done!!...

Doing it the above way will not only save you money, but is CERTAIN to be a better fit than the standard F/TF Carpet!!!!!!!! :o/

D,

I have just fitted a beige carpet set which I bought from Newton Commercials.

It is a vast improvement on the original black carpet, but as Mark says - that's not surprising!

Newton are tooling up to manufacture their own product, so not sure if they have any black carpet in stock.

The carpet set comes in three sections. Rear bulkhead, passenger's compartment and driver's compartment.

The drivers side is relatively easy to replace with a philips screwdriver and a T50 TORX thingy.

You need to disconnect the battery and wait for 20 minutes to avoid setting off the seat belt pre-tensioner when removing the seat.

Good luck!
