MG MGF Technical - Replacement Remote Fob

Hello.....


I've just purchased an '96 MGF which came with only 1 remote fob. I've been quoted £53.77 before tax by the main dealer, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a less costly solution?

Does that include programming the fob to match you car? Not a bad price if it does, and I'm sure there is no alternative.

Note to self: what is the situation re: key fobs and programming when MG no longer exist?

I'll probably go for that then..... I think there are third party people out there..... but i'm not sure where yet!!

There is a company that advertises in Total MG that does replacement remote fobs for most MG Rovers - but I don't know whether they'll be any cheaper than that price you've been quoted - 50 odd quid seems quite good value if, as John says, it includes reprogramming :o)

I've been thru this exersize just recently.
Your car ECU should work on 433Mhz frequency. (UK market)
The key fob is a LUCAS brand 3TXA, 3TXB, 3TXC or 17TN.
Easily bought on ebay for about 3-10 GBP.
Then you need it programmed by a dealer who has a unit called a "testbook" or a security fob place.
Here is a couple of links to places that helped me out heaps. My dealer charged me $30Aus.

Avon Electronics advertise in TotalMG. I payed £40 for a new fob and that included the programming pod.
