MG MGF Technical - replacing boot
has anyone replaced a boot lid on a 98 mgf? my old one is scratched and worn and have just bought a new one from a scarp yard |

Pretty straight forward - unbolt existing boot lid from hinge (IIRC a total of 8 8mm bolts), swap over lid and bolt back up. :o) Of course, swapping over the boot lock is a little more involved - and the other 'complication' may be whether your existing boot lid has the high level brake light fitted or not - as clearly this will need disconnecting, and the wire threaded out and put into the new lid following the swap - but nothing really to tax the DIY'er :o) |

Matt the change is fairly easy espicailly if you have a mate to help you lift it off the mountings so you do not scratch the paintwork. remember to attach a cord to the high level brake light fiiting before disconnecting the boot lid otherwise you will have a difficult task re-threading the loom through the double skin. The 6 bolts are 'tack weld' locked so be careful of your knuckles. If you put a couple of cushions under the back of the lid, then it will not fall onto the paintwork. A good precaution is to remove a rear light until you have the lock adjusted good in case it jams. I have interchangeable lids with and without the S/S bolt on luggage rack with a 7 pin electrical connector on the LH hinge arm. Geoff F. |

perhaps 'Front of the lid'. GF |

Go for the TF lid rather than the MGF one. Both interchangeable |
