MG MGF Technical - 'Rev' vibration in traffic
I have a 3 month old F Freestyle edition. When I've been in a traffic jam for around 15 minutes, sometimes the engine revs, but the rev counter doesn't change from under 1k. It's quite noticeable, blipping the throttle doesn't rectify it, but when I get moving again the engine returns to normal. Can someone explain, its very strange.

Hi, Its probably just the fan, if the car is getting hot it is just cooling it down. It will make a bit of noise and you will probably feel it if you hover your foot over one of the pedals. Hope I am right and if I am you have nothing to worry about. The revs wont go up as the fan has nothing to do with them. Cheers

Quite right Wez, but the engine will change note as more fuel is pumped in in order to power the fan (although the RPM will remain constant) Will

Yep Will your right, mine does sound a bit different when the fan is running. Its the same with every car - or any car ive been in. Mine (in the F) has not needed the fan assistance alot yet but I did notice it when it happened.

I Had a friend who's volvo didn't react quickly enough to changes in current load, and he could stall the engine by switching on the lights, rear screen and fan blower all at the same time! Will

Jon, I have noticed exactly the same thing with my Freestyle, so thanks for posting this and clearing it up! I was tempted to post, but could not think of a way of describing it! I too was puzzled about the fact it sounded like it was revving more but the RPM was steady at just less than 1000! Nice to know it is normal - I'll stop blipping the accelerator to try to stop it!!
