MG MGF Technical - Revive the F
Hi All, It's been a few years since I've been on here or even driven the F. I was thinking of getting it back on the road (not been riven for 5 years or so!!!), I noticed however that the coolant resivour was empty. I assume I must have a leak somewhere? I'll fill it up and also get a new battery, is there anything else I should do? The car is a 95 N and only has 50,000 on the clock. However I wonder what condition the underneath is in also I would assume any rubber items like bushes would be fooked by now. Cheers Sunil |

Hi Sunil If you have lost coolant it is always a worry with an F, as it has been standing for five years I would expect it has leaked out by the water pump, but it is worth checking your oil stick is nice an clean. I assume that you have turned the engine over from time to time? Tyres are another one to look out for especially if the car has been standing on them without moving for a long time. When you do start using the car watch the coolant levels like a hawk as rubber hoses leaking will potentially give you an engine over heat and even a HGF! Good luck I am sure others will give you other pointers. |

Hi, Thanks for the mail, I think I might call the RAC out to fire the car up in the first instance. Actually it might be closer to 3 years ago that I drove the car last. What's even worse is I have a Porsche 964 which has been sitting around for 3 years also :o(!!! Cheers Sunil |

Hi Sunil Also check the 2 long coolent pipes as these where prone to rusting out at the ends. One other point I would take advice on is the condition of the timing belt as this has not moved for some time. Hope all is ok and get the F going soon don't forget the old advertising F = FUN Regards. Richard |

Check your hydrolastic suspension height. It has probably dropped over the years. |

Welcome back Sunil - condition depends very much on how and where the *F* was stored. Our 96 N is still going strong - due a BIG service this year! |

If the coolant tank is empty I would advise bleeding the system as well as just refilling, you could have air locks in the radiator and heater circuits. Personally I would change the timing belt and water pump, and at least the plug leads as well. Better choice than the Porsche with fuel prices where they are. |

Hi All, Hi Ted !!! How are you, does Rob still come on here? I had the suspension pumped up at the last MOT/ service so it's at the right ride height. I've got a Turbo S cab which is costing me a fortune in petrol driving to work. Cheers Sunil |

Hi Sunil Rob can be found most these days at http://www.mgfregister.org/ But yes he does come on here from time to time. |

Hi Guys, I'm going to have the F shipped down to Cox and Buckles in Wimbledon for them to get it all sorted and up and running. Will keep you all posted :o) Cheers Sunil |
