MG MGF Technical - Ride Height 1998 VVC

After 5 years of very pleasuable ownership our VVC appears be a little lower than it used to be. I mean the gap between the top of the tyres and the wheel arch would seem to be less. Compared with a similar vehicle in the works car park I am sure it is lower.

The car still goes very well and tyre wear is no problem at all. Am I being paranoid or is there quick way of checking ride height and/or the hydragas pressure?

Thanks for any help. Sorry for my ignorance.

Measure between centre of wheel ( MG Badge ) and wheel arch, should be 368mm +/- 10mm. Any less get it pumped up by garage !!

368mm is at 17°C - it will measure a lot less than that in this cold weather. I think that you allow just under 1mm for each degree difference in temp.

Just checked Rob Bells site and he quotes -

Measure ride height from the front wheel centre to the wheel arch lip vertically above it. Manufacturer's specification: 368mm +/- 10mm @ 17°C. Temperature corrections: 0.4mm per degree celcius from ideal reading temperature, therefore:

Temperature "Ideal" ride height"

15°C - 367.2 mm

17°C - 368 mm

19°C - 368.8 mm

Thanks David and Jay. I will get that measured at the weekend and get it pumped up if necessary. Would it be 'normal' after 8 years for the pressure to have dropped?

Thanks again.

John - measure it by all means BUT if it rides well and tyre wear is not a problem then just leave it as it is and enjoy it -- and yes it is quite normal for it to have dropped a little in 8 years.

If it was pumped up would they do it wheel by wheel or is there a central point which then 'balances out' around the four wheels?

Two points in the front boot under the plastic shroud - one for each side of the car, the back and front are linked.
