MG MGF Technical - Roof Holes adn fixes

Hi guys and gals.

Im about to pick up my new tf (tomorrow with any luck!) and want to avoid the roof holes which both my current tf's hoods has suffered. I know what causes it, I know MGR did know about it, but did they make a way of avoiding it?

Does anyone make a fix like Mike S and etcs?

Cheers
Ian

p.s. Ive searched the archives and can't find it!

I think this is what you've referring to Ian - in another post next to yours :-)

I think you can order those parts from a dealer... if there's still one near you.

Yeah I saw that one, the holes I've had are much further over, the're the other side of the roof mechanism, right on the outside of the roof, I can't see why that strap would stop the hole wearing when you close the roof. The holes occur when the material is caught between those 2 parts when they fold together, and on the first hood I had, I had holes on both sides of the car, in exactly the same spot......

Ian,

Those straps do actually stop the hood material getting caught in the mechanism as you say. I have them on mine and it does work :-)

I had those same holes on my first hood but since I've changed hood for a TF one its not doing it anymore.

Chances are if its quite a new TF you're getting the straps should already be there...

The 2 best 'fixes' IMO are to ensure no material is trapped in the mechanism when you lower the hood, and to use the hood cover whenever the hood is down to stop it moving and the frame wearing holes in the fabric.
If its a very new TF (with a glass rear screen) then I have found it is less of a problem, as the material actually folds away from the frame, rather than into it as with the plastic screen hoods :o)

It is a new one with a glass screen, Ill keep an eye on it :)
