MG MGF Technical - Rusting itself onto the axle??
If my car is left for more than one week it needs quite a few revs to move off. As if it is rusted stuck. Then for the next few miles it sounds a tiny bit like metal on metal with no grease. Is this common and can I fix it myself?? Thank you! Oh and by the by. What type of glue would be suitable to adhere the carpet back in place? It comes away in some places. |

Sound like the rear brake pads have rusted to the rotor. Try using the brake a bit and see if it goes. Next time you are leaving it parked for a week or two, try leaving it in 1st gear with the hand brake off. |

Paddy, I've just used araldite on my carpets and it seemed to work... get the 10 minute stuff and have patience holding it down for that long. Cheers Chris |

Just to mention Paddy that I tried about 94 other ways of sticking the carpets down before going for Araldite... nothing seemed to work. Even tried getting my local carpet fitter out but he said he only does houses! The cheek of it... Cheers Chris |

Chris, The problem with araldite is that the carpets will be stuck down for good. The carpets all come away just in front of the doors and in the middle on the bulkhead in the boot. Get the super strength velcro and stick it to the car and superglue it to the carpet. That way you'll be able to get the carpet out if you ever need to. |

Would Echo Daves comments!. :o) just replaced my carpets in my F, they are a VERY poor fit as standard, the only way I could get them to hold anything like, was to use a large roll of Velcro tape!. Dont know who made the carpets for MGR, but they didnt use the F floorpan when taking the measurements!. |

The carpet originally used vecro tabs to hold it in place - I've still got mine, but they've become detached. The obvious solution seems to be to araldite these tabs back onto the carpet backs - another job to add to the ever-increasing list!!! |

Wow sounds like a bit of hassle to sick velco on everything but as it happens I do have a free day. My biggest worry at the moment is that wheel cleaner has leaked on the boot carpet and im scared it will dissolve my F. Should I get the carpet out and hose it down??? Thanks for the advice as always everyone. |

Gripfix type builder's adhesive (solvent based) sticks quickly and firmly, but it sticks forever. |

David, I went for araldite so that I could hide stuff under the carpets and no-one could ever find out :-) (just kidding by the way)... Chris |

I fixed this problem in a somewhat unusual way: I lifted the carpet in both footwells and I cut a piece of "fitted" carpet (the glued on, wall to wall indoor type of thing) to fit precisely the bottom of the footwell. I then put the black carpet back down and, after a tiny bit of trimming here and there with some scisors, it fitted perfectly! Since it had been raised a little bit, it was now very well secured under the lip of the door seal. HTH, Per |

Seems like your carpet questions have been answered. I used double sided tape from a mate who fits carpets for a living. It works! As to your other problem I think you are washing the car rather too well and putting it away or parking it leaving water in the brake areas. Next time you wash the car, drive it for a mile or so and park it up. I think this is your problem. Hope this is of help. Tony |

Thanks tony. I dont know about the washing car bit as it happens without that dynamic too. But I took the velcro idea and it worked great. Shame rover didnt use good stuff in the first place!! |
