MG MGF Technical - SAFETY DEVICES - Chrome hoops
Has anyone fitted or know anything about the "SAFETY DEVICES" CHROME rollover hoops? Any pics?? Are they any good?? |

You'll se some pictures at http://www.csmgf.dsl.pipex.com/darkside/darkside_index.htm under Roll Hoops. As far as I know they are a bu**er to fit and you need to take the struts off to get access to the engine cover. They also make a bit of a mess of your T-bar If I recall correctly there are some on Ebay just now. |

Yep, i concur. Safety Devices roll hoops are untested and are a pain to fit. Furthermore you need to partially remove them every time you want to get into the engine bay. As well as this, the rear strut prevents the hood being stowed properly as it fouls the rear screen causing unwanted creases, you also can't fit a half tonneau cover. Oddly enough they were generally disliked when they were first launched (hmm, 1996/97 IIRC) by the then members of this BBS, primarily because of the 'removal to get access to the engine bay' problem. I had a good lookk at the new X-Power official roll bars at Silverstone the other weekend, they have the same problem! Muppets. SF |

The 'X-Power' logo is nice ;o) |

says on e-bay advert that: Note that the bars can not be fitted to MGF's with rear speakers due to interference. Anyone have precise details of this? As in could they still be fitted by removing the speaker box? Or do they cut through the t-bar where the the speaker grills are? |

>Note that the bars can not be fitted to MGF's with rear speakers due to interference. but if you gold plate the mountings and colour in the CD logo with felt pen then... oh hang on, _physical_ interference |

>> Or do they cut through the t-bar where the the speaker grills are? << Precisely. SF |

Do they - or do they actually effect the speaker mounting plate behind the T-bar??? Don't know - but suspect that Andy and Will are correct. |

This is what i am thinking rob. the mk2 speaker grills are central to the head rest, as are the roll hoops. there seems to be plenty of space between the struts of the roll hoops to accomodate the grills. http://www.csmgf.dsl.pipex.com/darkside/roll_hoops/Safety_Devices.jpg seems a feasible fit to me, with at bit of creativity. |

Gerry Hiorns has these bars fitted + rear speakers. You can just see the speakers between the hoops in this picture http://www.csmgf.dsl.pipex.com/darkside/roll_hoops/gerry.jpg |

i saw that DC, just noticed the fact they aren't standard mk2 ones tho. however they look bigger than standard mk2 ones. |

standard ,,,standard,,,what is this thing 'standard'??? i dont know what this word means... thanks paul for saying i had bigger ones. ( bigger one would have been enough) take note mike satur from non standard gerry hiorns now known by his indian name 'gerry big ones dances in gold' geez am i bringing down the cred of this site |
gerry |
Gerry, Can you confirm whether yours are bigger? appearances can be deceptive ;-) I can't see any reason these couldn't be fitted with the Mk2 t-bar. Although without having the parts it's hard to tell. Oh well, put a bid in anyway, soon find out. |
paul weatherill |
Speaker might not be centered on the MKII T bar, hoops are. SO this might be the problem david |
