MG MGF Technical - Seat Belt
The driver's seat belt clip has failed on my F. I seem to remember reading somewhere that this is a common fault and it might be expensive due to the auto-tensioning element involved. What has to be done and by whom? |

I had this happen to me. I took it to the local dealer and it cost me about £100 in total. There's a fair bit of labour involved, because they can't just replace the clip, they have to replace the whole "anchor" unit. Can't drive without it though! Diggers |

I replaced mine for £26. You can fit this yourself in about 30 minutes. All you need is the correct size bit and a socket set. Shane |

Shane Some brief details would be helpfull. What was the part number of the replacement clip, dismantling sequence etc Or is it really so obvious that my grannie could do it? |

JohnP It's pretty obvious, when you get the part you'll see how it all hangs together. Sorry I have the part number. Just give the parts shop your chassis number and they will order the part from that. Shane |

To remove the seatbelt clip, you need to remove the seat. This is covered on Paul Lathwell's MGF FAQ (from memory) >> http://www.dotcomoff.com << Follow the FAQ link and look for how to remove seats. It is fairly straightforward, but you do need to disconnect the battery 5-10 minutes beforehand to discharge the airbag (SRS) circuitry. Don't want it going off during the replacement! :-0 IIRC you need a T50 Torx bit to undo the seat fram bolts, but other than that, there are no special tools required. Good Luck SF |
