MG MGF Technical - Security codes
3 weeks into F ownership and I have a feeling I'm going to be a regular on this board! Am I right in thinking that the 4 digit code for the Alarm/ECU is different to the radio code? If so the code I have is only the radio code and I'll need the ECU code(no security code cards supplied) - which I take it is a Test Book requirement? Chris |

Hi Chris, Yes, you're right, the radio code is different from the immobiliser code your car was originally supplied with. Testbook can interrogate the ECU (MEMS) without the code - it is, as mentioned above, just the immoboliser code. If you don't have it and need it (it's useful, as you can use the ignition key in the driver's door lock and enter the code manually if for what ever reason your key fob doesn't work), then approaching an MG main dealer or the factory itself should yield the information as these production related details remain on file at Longbridge. |

Although, as a PS to Rob's note regarding the info on file at Longbridge, MGR dealers traditionally used to increment the 2nd and 4th digits every time they sold a car on - just to ensure the previous owners couldn't get back in to their old cars :o) eg access code 1234 would become 1335 etc For this reason, a trip to your nearest Testbook would be the route I'd take! |

Thanks Guys. |

Yep and some of the "supplied" numbers needed to be incremented as well EVEN when the *F* was brand new !! |

Not tried these guys, but found the link on another site: http://www.mg-rover-radio-codes.com/mg-rover-eka-codes.php Get your EKA code for a 'mere' 15 quid. No idea what a dealership would charge you though? |

http://www.mgrccservices.com is another supplier of data. Geoff.F. |

Just to make a slight correction to Rob Bells statement. the data is no longer at Longbridge. Even the building the PC with the database was housed in is no longer at Longbridge. this database was purchased by XPart and we currently offer a security code service. Any XPart outlet can get codes for you. Also, if it is a later car fitted with an SCU instaed of the 5As system, T4 can not interrogate the SCU for the EKA code if the immobilser is armed. |

Thanks for the correction - and I am sure that X Part probably is more approachable than the factory about queries of this nature! LOL :o) |
