Those are the type of thing I enquired about on this BBS when I first had my F, there must be someone on here who could knock some up? |

Should be easy enough for someone who works with plastics - Carl made something similar for his car (see Dieter's site - http://www.mgfcar.de/) |

I agree it shouldn't be difficult, I guess there is not much of a market or else someone would have made them by now!!! I did look at the ones from your link (some time ago as your link didn't work for me) but I didn't like them (fussy git I hear you say) I suppose a mould could be made from wood - wheres me penknife gone? I was thinking of a vent that would attach using the existing screwsand was a similar shape to the existing vents but it would stick out. Air would then be forced into the vent and that would help an induction kit without going under the car. |

Yup, that'd work :o) |

Maybe I'll go to the local Ripspeed and see what placky vents they sell that might do the job!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I know a guy whose company makes stuff out of Carbon Fibre, I'll enquire about costs etc, but I think that the first set would be seriously expensive. Worth the enquiry though I guess. |

Great idea, Would anyone who wants side vents for their F indicate here to give Phil and idea of numbers. Thanks Rob, As you seem to be quite knowledgable, anideas/pointers on size, shape? |

Shape wise, I'd go for something similar to those seen on the 200HPD: http://www.mgcars.org.uk/carclub/mgfregister/200HPD/ |

Yes except they are a TF shape. My idea would be that the shape would mimic the existing vent. Take the vent off, the scoop would be two elements, the inner a copy of the existing and the outer an inch larger and "bonded" to the inner. it would be flush to the body where it touches (round the 'back' of the vent.) The 'front' would be a curved line drawn from the back of the screw heads, this would allow the existing mounting points to be used. The vent would protrude 2 or 3 " from the body, this would allow a decent bit of trunking to be fitted for the induction kit. Remove the existing mesh and "modify" it to fit the new shape. I've got it worked out in my head just need someone to put it into reality. |

this was Carl's works trial on a long swedish winter weekend http://www.mgfcar.de/mods/carl_PIC00013.jpg http://www.mgfcar.de/airfilter/air_catch1.jpg http://www.mgfcar.de/airfilter/air_catch2.jpg Regards Dieter |

>> Yes except they are a TF shape. My idea would be that the shape would mimic the existing vent. << Yes, that's exactly my suggestion: the scoop would follow the shape of the F air intake, but the shape of the air intake hole itself would mimick that used by the TF200HPD. It's a nice simple design. Carl's designs are the simplest (and most elegant) form of a scoop: perhaps a similar 'eye brow' could be made from carbon fibre and attached in a similar way to the existing air intake trim? |
Rob Bell |
Rob/Dieter, yes, that is similar to the idea I had, I envisaged the scoop larger than the vent as opposed to the same size. Does anyone know whether Carls scoops were fitted/worked/are still being used? |
