MG MGF Technical - SHELL V-POWER Racing Gas. Any good?
Hi all! I saw in an ad about Shell's new fuel for performance engines. They call it V-Power premium racing (or something like that) Anyone using it ? Does it worth its money? And one question on the subject: I've been using from day 1 BP's Unleaded (not the super unleaded) So far the clock shows 15.000 kms(1.8mpi MY2000). i'm thinking of switching to V-Power as mentioned above. Is it a good move for the engine will I notice any difference (apart from my wallet ;-)), or I should continue to use the same? Thanks! Theodossis

Is this perhaps what we know in the UK as Shell Otimax?
David
meant Optimax
David
yes probably its the same. I guess they changed the name for marketing purposes... Are you using it? Cheers! Theodossis

Haven't used it in the F, but do use it in Montego Turbo for hillclimbs and sprints. Probably all in the mind but it seems to go better !

Theodossis, Try searching the archive on Shell Optimax. A lot of threads about it. They might produce 0.5hp benefit :-) in my opinion. Not worth the extra cents. But then again I am putting in Mobile 98 rather than 96. So there you go! It's all up to you. I feel that 98 makes the car a little smoother at idle, but that could be just me again. Confusing huh? Just give it ago, and see if you like it. Regards, Hanah (and yes, Korea won the quarterfinal) :-D

David, I think I ll give it a try. Cheers! Hanah, thanks for the input. My only fear was if this change will have a bad effect in my engine, since it is running with normal unleaded. I hope the best to Korea ;-) Theodossis

Theodossis, thanks! No fear on that matter, it will not have ANY bad effect on your engine. Optimax at least would be combusted better than the unleaded you are using. No clogging effect, and no smoke. In other words, the oil will burn better than the one you are currently using. :-)

The optimax 98 has normally no effects for the power or the economy of a MGF, because this car has no knocking sensor. But the second effect of the optimax is to clean the engine inside, because of the use of other additive and the renunciation of sulphur. These shouts remove also older accretion and so protect against valve burns. Because of this I use the optimax from time to time. Torsten
