MG MGF Technical - shorting out
i need some help.My F keeps blowing a fuse under the bonnet, every time i turn it over. it is the bottom engine management fuse.I have traced the wire back to the boot where it has a connector that is mounted behind the mems unit.On the connector it says AMP5,does anyone know where this connection leads to so i can check the rest of the wire.Or does anyone know what the problem is.Any help much appreciated |

>it is the bottom engine management fuse Not sure what you mean by this, does the fuse have a number? On another thread JohnP gave a link to dieters site, the colour code is on another page linked onwards >On the connector it says AMP5 I'm afraid this simply means the connectors are made by AMP |

the fuse has no number, it is located in the fuse box behind the battery on the lid it lists what each fuse is for there are two for the engine management and the fuse in question is the one nearest the casing |

From memory there are two MEMS fuses under the bonnet one of the is certainly 30 Amp..... I had a short just a month ago and tracked it down to the lambda sensor wire, the insulation has melted and the wire shorted on the exhaust manifold. With the engine cold remove the engine inspection cover and inspect the lambda sensor wire which comes out the bottom of the exhaust manifold. Check the routing of the cable and then check the condition of the wire, you'll need to pull back the protecting flexible heat shield. If melted use some decent cable crimps and insulating tape and make sure the protective sheath is covering all the important bits. Tim |
