MG MGF Technical - Slickshift
My 2002 MGF is great but I am sure the gearchange could be improved. Has anyone any comments on the sequential or slickshift systems? |

Possibly some confusion over terms? I am familiar with sequential gear shift systems having run motorcycles almost all my adult life - push the lever one way to change up and push it the other way to change down, hopefully with a neutral position in there somewhere. Slickshift systems: presumably like that made and sold by Mike Satur and also by TechSpeed (and probably others). Re-engineered standard gearshift mechanism with the removal of as much free play as possible and a drastic reduction in the distance moved between gear positions in the conventional H pattern. I'm sure somebody will come forward with a clearer explanation or even a total rebuttal but ... those are my thoughts for what they are worth. |

Personally I find the slick shift a vast improvement on the standard gear change. Because of the cable arrangement, you can't get rid of all the sloppiness. Chris |

I believe that Quaife have a sequential change suitable for the Elise and F - but it is very very expensive! Mike Satur and Techspeed both produce quick-shift kits for the F: both approx 250 quid, although TS's price is fitted whilst Mike's is for the kit. Which is best? I reckon they're both on a par, although Mike's has more engineering changes to the lever mechanism. Try both if you can, and then make your own decision. |

John, The Stepspeed box gives a six speed sequential gear change when in sports manual mode. However, this is not something that can be easily fitted to a manual F. David |

Mike Satur's slick shift 2 kit (as fitted to my F!) rules......easirly one of the best mods I've done. |
