MG MGF Technical - Smallest Right Angled Ratchet Screwdriver

Looking for the Smallest Right Angled Ratchet Screwdriver available. Must be no more than 4 cm at the widest point Ie Tip of bit to the outer edge of the ratchet.

Any ideas? To gain access in a very small place!
Julian

yup, get a screwdriver bit, and ratchet spanner of the right size, weld a blob of stuff on the side of the bit so it can't fall thru the spanner and you can put some side load on it
Will Munns

Try Machine Mart in Bristol Clarke mini ratchet set has a right angle ratchet complete with bits and sockets for just over a tenner.

Thanks Ken. Just what I am looking for.
Julian

Any chance of pics while you are in there Julian? Or is it too restricted even for cameras!
Charles

Julian if you haven't purchased a new resistor pack the cheapo Maplin power resistor fix I installed on my daughters car is still working after 9 months, 17 pence each.

Ken,
This would seem the perfect opportunity to remind us of the details........please!
Charles

Charles , I used three 10W wirewound resistors, 3.3 2.2 and 1 ohm from Maplins to replace the original burned out wires and just soldered them in place. When I bought the resistors last year they were 17p, now they seem to be 40p. The slow speed is a bit too slow so maybe a 2.2 would be a better choice.

Thanks Ken, I know I put the original printout somewhere safe. Far too safe to find again.
If Julian can survive his contortions I may be tempted to repeat his feat in the summer!

I bought a new resister pack before starting the job thinking it was a max 1 hour job - How wrong was I!! I will get the picis - with the consol out you will understand the problems one has with this and aircon so close.

I think with the right ratchet it may not be necessary to get the Fascia out in future - once you know exactly were the screws are attaching the resister pack, it should be easier to do with the fascia in situ - so I think!. Once the fascia was removed it is a mass of wires but as I have added all sorts of bits over the years, it will be a good chance to tidy up the additional cabling I installed plus glue the binnacle to the fascia so it is tight again (broken tabs.

This weekend's job (again)!
Julian

Relieved to hear you survived Julian!

Julian
Any further info welcome as my 1999 A/c equipped resistor pack has packed up on 1 & 2.

All done. Resister pack replaced. You will need to take out dash, central consol, instument panel and glove box but aircon untouched. You will need small screwdriver ratchet to get to the two screws attaching the resister pack to the fan housing then everything is fine.Dash need to come out as you need to hold the ratchet firm from the top (using the other hand to ratchet) to get to the back screw.

Also fitted Mobile Phome Mute Kit to my standard MGF radio. Works a dream with my Motorola V66.

Looking back on it alot of fun looking at the car with no dash and wiring everywhere. In 10 years time I will have to do it again I guess!
Julian

Thanks for the update Julian.
