MG MGF Technical - Smell of petrol in cockpit
Can anyone tell me why I have a slight smell of petrol in my car when I first get in it? then it goes and when I leave the car for a few hours and go back I can smell it again? I have had an MOT and nothing came up. Can anyone help on this? |

Steve, What year is your car ?? I seem to remember hearing some earlier models 1996/1997 had reports of a petrol smell in the cabin. I too myself had this in my P reg VVC. Their is more in the archives about this but I'm not entirely sure myself what the reason is. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me may give you a reason for this. Cheers, Tony |

There are threads on here somewhere about this problem. From memory I think it's probably a blocked breather pipe. |

Some early cars had to have new tanks fitted as they had become porous. |

My P VVC has this whiff every now and then and has done for three years. Never found a problem that would explain it. Just wind the window down and wait a bit before lighting a fag. ;) |

Our first (R reg) MGF had this problem, we had the fuel tank replaced and the problem went away. (ps I got MG Rover to pay for parts even though car was well outside warranty as they accepted it was a known problem) |
